the PPB twitter account is truly a marvel. they're the ones who perpetuated the quikrete milkshakes rumor last year with NO evidence. they say they're going to declare protests as riots in advance of the protest beginning on "rumors of explosives," it's a really irresponsible emergency services outlet.
It's the obvious outcome of having one of the most compromised and openly racist/fascist police forces in the country. It's actually kind of impressive how often Portland comes up if you are doing research about fascist and white supremacist movements in the US.
Remember this was the state whose founders were so racist they were against slavery because they wanted it to be illegal for black people to even exist in the state.
Yeah I know it's pretty much the default here but there are degrees of shittiness between departments. And this isn't a some cops are good post AT ALL just saying the ones in the PNW are a very especially bad subsection of an already bad institution.
The whining is the point. And anyways more of this stuff against them means they can whine more and get on Fox News about the "dangerous escalation from far left antifa", they think this will help their side of things and perhaps bring federal help or get liberals to agree that the protestors are all violent terrorists and that they need to give them back their riot weaponry. It's about creating a narrative that it's the forces of good law and order (cops) against the violent forces or destruction and disorder (the protestors who for the most part just want the police to stop brutalizing black people and want some sort of reformation). And that's the point really, obfuscating the actual reason these protestors started in favor of turning it into another culture war item of whether you're for police or protestors. Thus protecting the current status quo by removing the original reason from the conversation.

Maybe it's made up? Your average demonstrator doesn't want to use these tactics, but that's how they want to paint everyone.
