Unfortunately, my favourite sport is rugby, and if I don't play it I become quite depressed. For those of you out of the loop, rugby culture is probably one of the most toxic out there.

Harsh initiations that generally border on sexual harassment/assault.

Tory boys.

Misogyny, homophobia, whatever, you name it, it's there.

As one of the new guys, and one of the youngest too, if I confront the club president about this shit, I suspect I will have my shit kicked in or get kicked out the team. If I take it higher than that, the club would simply cease to exist. They only just returned from a ban due to bad initiations.

What can I do? Am a bit of a minnow in a pond of big fuck off sharks.

Gosh idk, but my general advice would be if an initiation situation becomes more problematic than you’re ok with, walk away. Don’t worry if they’d judge you or whatever the fucj. If you’re uncomfortable, walk away

Yeah I know, I've dodged all initiations in 10 years of playing, but as far as the other stuff goes I'm at a loss.

Would that be american football? Seems like it would be equally cancerous, and it just ain't the same.

Mmmm, considered it, but it just doesn't have the numbers and funding that rugby does. The rugby club is at least 60 strong, which is good fun really, even if the leaders are cunts.

Another thing I considered was kabaddi - an Indian sport where it's sort of like trying to snipe out of a ruck for the entire game. Looks like a good mix of rugby and wrestling.

Only way I've ever seen hazing culture change is people aging out and the younger groups below them not wanting to continue it or shifting to less abusive forms of hazing. It's that or you kill the group, basically.

Yeah. Think I'm just gonna bide my time and snatch club president when I'm old enough, or try to talk to whoever the new one is next year to figure out if they're a shithead or not.

What you want to do is try and get people to join who you are pretty sure aren't interested in doing it in the future. That's basically how me and a group of friends were able to change the group we were in, basically by doing white genocide but for hazing lol.
