huge own goal for the zionists to tweet this… along with the photo they posted of hundreds of civilian cars destroyed at the rave, things are coming into focus and it's not a good look for the IDF

I know it's unreasonable to expect random civilians to know what to do in situations like this, but I swear I am yelling at the screen. Holy fuck, get your heads down and keep them there!!! Just a general rule if you're ever in the middle of a bunch of gunfire and don't have a gun yourself, watching ain't worth it. Get as low as you can till the shooting stops.

Hiding behind a civilian vehicle full of civilians as a shield forcing your opponent to shoot through said civilians in order to shoot you is about as "human shield" as it possibly gets without physically grabbing someone.

Usually this "human shield" thing means stuff like parking vehicles/launch sites next to civilian buildings that you might hit with counter-rocket fire. But in this case they are quite literally putting them in front of themselves as actual physical shields.

Look, I'm no expert on army command structures and the specific structure of the IOF, but I find it pretty unbelievable that the lowest ranked soldier Hamas encountered was a corporal.
I suspect the number of actual civilians in the list is embarrassingly small.

I thought that too, but looking at it the IDF just autopromotes everyone to corporal after 4-12 months of service, then to sergeant after 18-20 months. So everyone that's conscripted ends up as a sergeant or higher by the end of compulsory service. Presumably a decent chunk of the time as a private is in training.

Seems weird to me to have a system where a conscript army bare has any privates and 90% of your reserves are sergeants, but maybe maybe it's motivational for them to feel more important like that or something.

That's kinda hilarious tbh. Military autopromotion always makes me think of how my *dad did some work rehousing members of the British Army who were made redundant and they had to make him a lieutenant in order to fit the idea of a civilian telling them what to do into their heads. Got jumped straight to CO by being on a base for 5 minutes.

In conscript armies auto promotion to corporal after a few months is quite common. I know quite a few older people that were conscripted to the South African Army before 1994, and most were corporals or lance corporals.

They've got a mandatory serve for 2 years, no? How many of the list were active at the time?

Would love a good % of "civilians" killed because it's looking like virtually all of the 1400 were enlisted at some point recently.

It does look like a solid 60% are higher ranks though, so justifiably fucked.

All I’m gonna say is that the if they’re gonna treat “military aged male” as a meaningful distinction, then “army reservist” should be one too

except we think it's ghoulish that obama-drone did that so we should specify when we're using our own standards vs using the imperialists' standards to make a sick burn

Hmm, it's not entirely accurate since she colored a bunch of civilians too. I'd love to have this mess in an excel file so we can figure out the exact number. It's different from the Haaretz numbers here. I suspect Haaretz didn't count the reserve soldiers with the soldiers while this list has (res) in front of their names.

Looks correct, Israel clearly tried to bury all the military names towards the bottom but its not 100% IDF after half way, the person highlighting just gave up. Its not even like theres comma delineation.

i'm not sure about counting conscript reserves as legitimate targets but it's a settler colony so fuck 'em they should've stayed home or had as much spine as that swifty.

I'm still not sure to be honest, but yeah, I've been suspicious of the accounts of that day.

There is also the possibility that there were a majority of civilian deaths (official numbers do suggest a small majority of civilians), but not all of them from Palestinian fighters; this article is especially interesting; I quote:

Kibbutz Be’eri has been a favoured destination for BBC reporters keen to illustrate Hamas’ barbarity. It is where Lucy Williamson headed again this week. And yet none of her reporting highlighted comments made to the Israeli Haaretz newspaper by Tuval Escapa, the kibbutz’s security coordinator. He said Israeli military commanders had ordered the "shelling [of] houses on their occupants in order to eliminate the terrorists along with the hostages".

I haven't checked the Haaretz piece in question myself though. There is also this piece:

Israeli forces shot their own civilians, kibbutz survivor says

damn, you're sayin that a guerilla fighting force fully aware that they should expect reprisals launched their surprise attacks against military targets and not civilian? what, as if the goal was to weaken israel's capacity to respond and not just to inflict as much human suffering as possible?

It's such an obvious self own too. Just don't give them their ranks on your public propaganda piece.

Also I wonder how many of the settlers were killed by either panicking IOF troops or were deliberately murdered by the IOF
