The grapes of diabolical consequence
"FUCK YOU GODDAMN ASIATIC DESPOT BASTARDS WE'LL FUCKING DESTROY YOU MATE YOU SAVAGE GENOCIDAL NAZIS"
"Damn, bro. We're not forcing you to trade with us. We'll just stop buying your stuff. There all better."
"Wait no."
Australia could do this since they have a floating exchange rate, but it would devalue their currency to the dollar making their money worth less on the international market. Usually countries really like having a strong, expensive currency (helps them fuck over poor countries bette, bankers like it) so I doubt they are going to do that anytime soon.
Also- extra grapes won’t rot, they’ll admittedly go for a low price, but they’ll go into distillation for brandy, or once that market is saturated, fuel ethanol.
To be fair, that's assuming that the capitalists are rational. Remember all that food being destroyed because of the pandemic?
Diabolical beings (aka Anglos and most Westerners) deserve diabolical treatments 🤷♂️
Oh wow, it's almost like you've been acting like a dick towards China and now they're retaliating, Aus.
australians fucking around: this rules australians finding out: wait what the hell
Stalling the import of grapes is diabolical now. Is this what people mean when they say the devil is in the details?
I love Australia trying to play hardball with China.
China can collapse Australia’s economy entirely with one swoop of the pen, Australia could cause China to have shortages for a month or two and that’s about it
On the bright side, australian grapes are like ridiculously cheap here now
"Don't these.....people....realize that we are white?"
There's a lot of irrational resentment building up, and also being stoked. Another nice easter egg for younger generations to deal with.
Showerthought for the day is that the only way for the US to slow it's loss of power and influence is to cause as much chaos as possible, politically and militarily, globally. That has the benefit forcing extra funding to the MIC, which suits everybody. In times of chaos, capital will look for safe harbour, which is great for NY real estate or wherever else $ are stashed, which suits everybody too. They could probably use chaos as reason to bring back some manufacturing, or develop new client states. It's good for US business for the US to foment chaos.
China prefers a peaceful status quo for trade to they can continue to develop.
Moral hazard was the reason given in 2008 as to why homeowners couldn't get a bailout. Think there's some moral hazard here. The way the incentives are arranged for the US does not encourage virtuous choices.

Climate change will ensure there are no safe harbors, if anybody is betting on going to Manhattan in 30 years they'll need a military escort at best or a scuba diving suit at worst.
Take the US dollar and the two dozen ways you can make it completely worthless overnight. A lot of wealth is in the hand of tech illiterate boomers too. And the ones that are at least up to date( e.g Elon, Bezos) are too soft or delusional to realize when the game is up, Elon will likely prefer to flee to Mars and at best die of old age living in worst conditions than a middle income US family than to embrace socialism.
The moment they decide to flee to some bunker on an island is the moment they'll lose all global influence, chaos indeed but it is not as if anyone is going to be in global control. The US is probably and hopefully the last empire.
All valid points you're making. I'm not convinced tho.
I wonder if it isn't as simple as the US sparking several low level conflicts around the world. If they just increase the temperature globally, apply some pressure, weaker nations might feel forced to ally with the US and it's security umbrella.
I mean, they are probably prepared to increase the temperature as much as is necessary to retain their hegemony, they have basically said as much.
Australia yesterday: The Chinese menace must be tamed with fire 😠
Australia today: why are you being so mean 😥 please buy our grapes uwu
