One thing that surprises me is the wide range of opinions and how incredibly stupid every one of them is.
I was expecting a mixture of "both sides" and outright fascism, and both those things are there, but there's so much more to discover.

I think it's because the Left still takes it cues from the glory days of the sixties. "Fight the power! Down with the military industrial complex! Up the people!" So they see powerful Israelis in uniforms (eek!) and tanks and all against the poor little guy in shirt sleeves and jeans and their knee jerk reaction is to side with the downtrodden.

In this case, Palestine is an illiberal hell hole that stones gays and treats women as second class citizens while Israel is a liberal democracy that far better represents the lefts ideals... now that I think about it, probably has a lot to do with the new liberal savior complex.
This dipshit got 154 upvotes, what a cesspool. This perspective ('leftists only like the underdogs!') is echoed / upvoted so many times that it appears to be the dogma of the subreddit. What a bunch of maroons.

That whole subreddit is fash trash. Very few of them exhibit anything more than a smartass middle school redditor-level understanding of history / political theory. Islam (the Quran) is a repudiation against Jews and Christians. When you sit down and read the Quran, it basically goes on and on about how shitty Christians and Jews are. Remember, the Quran was conceived in the 600's, and was basically some people looking around and thinking "Man these Christians and Jews SUCK.. a real believer would X, Y, Z".
Therefore the Christians and Jews are natural allies against the Muslims. It really boils down to an Abrahamic clusterfuck. The Jews hate the Muslims and the Christians hate the Muslims, so the Jews and the Christians must be friends. This shit goes back thousands of years.

Islam wasn't formed as a reaction against Judaism and Christianity so much as against the numerous traditional beliefs of the various tribes of the Arabian peninsula. The Quran differs from Christian and Jewish scriptures, but if you think those faiths are in agreement with each other, wait until you learn about the origin of Christianity, or oops, the persecution of Jews during the entirety of European history up to the present day.
Except that's all irrelevant because the "thousands of years" canard that unread Westerners who want to sound like they know what they're talking about deploy is bullshit! It's not a fucking holy war you racist freak! They're not fighting over whether Muhammad was God's prophet or whether Jews are the chosen people! It's an asymmetric war between a genocidal ethnostate and the people whom they evicted from their homes in 1948 and have been slaughtering ever since. Oh wait yeah, I forgot how all the mentions of Christians and Jews as people of the book were actually hateful and not an explicit mention of the combined roots of their faith. Or how when the Prophet rises into heaven he literally meets Jesus Christ, the second most venerated figure in Islam who is literally the closest person to God in the levels of heaven, that was really the equivalent of when Dante describes the Prophet as being severed mouth to asshole in the lowest level of hell. And who could forget the biggest insult of all, Surah 16:36 "We did raise a messenger among every people, with the message: “Worship Allah and stay away from the Rebel (the Satan).” Then, there were some among them whom Allah guided, and there were others against whom deviation (from the right path) was established. So, travel on earth and see how was the fate of those who rejected (the prophets)." Yeah, God sent a rightly guided prophet to every community, but every prophet he sent except Muhammad was actually evil. Totally not projection of 1400 years of European Christian racial and religious hatred of Muslims.
Edit: it also pisses me the fuck off when people say "hatred between Jews and Muslims has existed for 2000/5000/10000 years because Islam hasn't even fucking existed for 2000 years! And the Rashidun caliphs who first conquered the levant explicitly protected churches, synagogues, and other houses of monotheistic worship!

But this does remind me of a Prager U video where they said the left hates Israel because of the reasons cited in that quote (hatred of the powerful simply because they're powerful).
The thing about doing explaining politics through psychoanalysis is that you can spin it literally anyway you like it. Shit like leftists having a blind love for "victims" could be used to explain support for the historically oppressed Jewish people AND used to explain support for the colonized Palestinians.
