They just opened up a new train in Florida near me

I guess it's kinda cool but it's still way slower than any modern train should be and also it would cost me $150 to go from Orlando to Miami round trip, double to bring my SO

oh boy do I just fucking love private infrastructure

It’s a $5 billion bet Brightline’s owner, Fortress Investment Group, is making, believing that eventually 8 million people annually will take the 3.5-hour, 235-mile (378-kilometer) trip between the state’s biggest tourist hubs — about 30 minutes less than the average drive between the two cities.

Damn you weren't kidding about it being slow.

Didn't Laos and Vietnam just get a massive high speed line that was partially built by China?

I dont know about Vietnam, but yeah Laos did. Let's just say the polling was done before they got the train. 👀

Idk what the exact relations are like but small developing countries often have salty relations with any big developed countries they happen to neighbor. Both for legitimate and illegitimate reasons.

I checked to see what kind of neolibs would call themselves "The Alliance of Democracies" and it turns out the map might be bullshit.

    Show

Probably accurate about US, Russia, China, and Israel overall though.

a mexican friend told me that argentina are the "white people of latin america". extra entitled/snobby/rich. this was also during the world cup, so it was mostly playful banter/ribbing, but i've taken it to heart.

i hope for a day that everyone's "most disliked country" is due to the nation's reputation in sports

I believe it. The only rhodieboo I've ever known IRL is a half argentinian half white guy. he's also the only person I know who likes the whole roof korean meme.

To be fair, Argentinians hate Argentinians. By that I mean the entitled people are from the capital, Buenos Aires. Literally EVERYBODY hates them, I think even themselves. If you're not from there you're good. That's what Uruguayans have to put up with smh /s

china did invade in the late 70s and prop up the khmer rouge
plus there have been tensions over the south china sea for years

Also China backed the Khmer Rouge and invaded Vietnam in 1979. So it's not like China-Vietnam tensions are in the distant past either.

That's very minor compared to the fucking Vietnam War where millions of Vietnamese were killed though and the French colonization was perpetuated. It's honestly really fucking cringe that Vietnamese public has such high approval of the people who genocided their parents and grandparents. Pathetic. Honestly a huge reason I have an issue considering Vietnam ML or AES, they seem to have completely failed at any type of revolutionary education in their youth. No other AES just turns around and forgives their colonizers within a generation like this, it's very sussy

I honestly wonder why, the US has objectively done more harm to Vietnam during the war and with the consequences of agent orange than China has.

Not surprising at all. China has spent the last 50 years supporting Sugondese separatism within Vietnam.

If you basically combine Israel + USA (as they are) you get a very very clear division between global north and south with only a few exceptions (India is one that sticks out to me)
