"0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself sad. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov fucked him over personally with his socio-economic theory. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world."

No offense but this reads like a 12 year old goth or anime nerd complaining about how no one understands them. Also you are being extremely presumptious when you call yourself "deprogrammed". Remember that garfield meme?

yea but when the manufacturing consent machine pushes its engines to the max, I cant help but think that I'm surrounded by morons.

It's really not about how woke we are, Americans are just the most ignorant and brainwashed people on the planet imo. We're surrounded by folks who've been fed 10 talking points on geopolitics and know nothing but to repeat those same talking points for each event.

You're right, there's no systematic effort to demonise communism in the US.

Geez, lighten up on the guy. You've never felt like the only non Chud in the room?

Yeah I thought it sounded kind of cringe. I didn't really know how to convey my point without sounding stupid. I'm not good with words lol. And I know I'm not immune to the propaganda I should have worded that differently.

I don't view my friends or family as lesser than me but it saddens me when they start talking about politics and I can tell they've been influenced by the lies we hear every day. I have tried to radicalize a couple of my friends but it's very hard. And yeah I'm still a teenager so I'm not completely mature and still have a lot to learn. Thanks.

No it wasn't condescending. I thought your writing was pretty good haha. I appreciate you guys pointing these things out to me because I feel like I didn't correctly convey my feelings in the post and it sounded kind of stupid and immature.

Good rhetoric comes with time and education. Sometimes it's also just a matter of having heard the exact same arguments over and over for long enough that you have responses already chambered.

      dehumanizing

Foucault talked about humanity being transformed into neoliberal capitalist subjects who are eerily borglike https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Birth_of_Biopolitics

"In game theory, Homo economicus is often modelled through the assumption of perfect rationality. It assumes that agents always act in a way that maximize utility as a consumer and profit as a producer,[2] and are capable of arbitrarily complex deductions towards that end. They will always be capable of thinking through all possible outcomes and choosing that course of action which will result in the best possible result."

sounds like a robot to me!

Don't lie about your politics. Just introduce them to other people little by little.

I think the key is knowing your audience. Try to find some common ground and go from there, or try to exploit some gap in their knowledge to fill with your knowledge. Read a lot. Don't take things too personally - I'm working on getting upset less quickly because a lot of people still mean well, and I know that because I meant well even when I was a Bernie liberal.

I think the Michael Brooks quote applies well - "Be ruthless with systems, be kind to people." Try to be patient and just chip away slowly.

100%. I was at a cookout a few weeks ago and was in a conversation with a guy who id just met who’s mom had run for local office and lost because she was vocally in support of trans rights. he was a very well meaning (but naive) lib but it was a good talk.

Next thing I know, a very conservative mutual friend of both of ours basically told this other guy I was a Marxist but also followed it up with how well read I was and I was really taken aback because our conversations in the past have been so far apart but it was meaningful that he at least knew i was approaching things in good faith.

Anyway I was drunk but I told the lib guy i had just met to read Marx and Lenin and he seemed open to it.

Sorry if it was hard to follow but I’ve gotten so much farther being well read and mostly nice than I have being a dick

It's actually insane to me when I visit my parents and MSNBC is on and I watch it for only like 60 seconds. Let alone the local fucking news. I just don't understand how you could watch these make-up-caked Ivy League ding dongs speaking with that weird-ass newscaster accent and just be like, "yup seems legit, this must be impartial and logical, obviously."

Stay strong. We're out here. You are not alone.

I have to talk about politics I have to lie about mine and tone it down. I’m grateful for all of you like-minded people because I don’t know a single leftist in real life.

God, same here dude. I have to parse everything I say in easily digestible and non-polemic language so that no one can tell if I'm even left leaning. You can call it cowardly but I don't have either the social or financial capital to out myself in front of chuds and libs and say goodbye to any future opportunities in my personal life.

And it looks like there will never come a time when I don't feel like a clandestine agent deep within the imperial core, with no help or support in sight.

Yeah, it can suck a lot of time. Even friends of mine who supported Bernie in the primaries have the worst takes on foreign policy (China is Nazi germany 2.0, the Iraq war was justified cause Saddam bad etc.) I pretty much don’t talk politics except when I need to.

I just play dumb guy who has not heard the news, if it’s something touchy

Like, for Americans: oh yeah cuban protests, are they pro-trump? No? Anti-police? No? Ah, like Jan 6th riot? Also no?

I have a fairly socialist friend that gets me. He's not commie but he gets it. Most my other friends are fairly different most are are sucdems at best. Then there's a few that are extreme commie but also weirdly racist and still have some strong patriotism from their military brainwashing days. It's been a ride.

I'm trying to think about my path toward coming around to leftism (Jon Stewart kind of started my interest in questioning the political status quo, Chapo Trap House similarly, I guess I like political "comedy"?). Can whatever your path was be replicated for friends? Can we make it 'fun?'

I was reading that stickied askchapo about organizing, and the old guys who probably most considered the boss their friend were the most aggressively anti-union. Maybe focus on connection, community, friendship, and trust, then ease into lefty ideas.

Or capitalize on anger with things (the Fox News approach), and it's connection to capitalism.

I got more radicalized by Chapo memes (was on that path, but it made me more explicit).

This site is alright, but it's not nearly as fun as the chapo sub could be. So much more serious in tone than it needs to be, IMO.
