At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus
The Gom Jabbar test of humanity, but the opening on the pain box is just a 1.5" diameter circle.
Look on the bright side, maybe the Chinese government will eventually be able to use this kind of technology to alleviate human suffering and do better urban planning or something.
Honestly, donating my brain to the urbanism meatbot sounds pretty dope
Wouldn't even need to do that if this is something that can be done by just growing some brain cells, which seems to be the case. Though I guess imagine the power of a whole one if one could figure out how to make use of all the neurons and structures etc. Damn, ok, yeah, stick my brain at the start of a train, hell yeah :traingang:
what the fuck is wrong with yall
theres no practical use for this tech outside of increased computation capacity, which we already have plenty of for realistic purposes
edit: unless you plan to do rationalist-style infinite people computer simulation heaven, but idk how practical that is with organic brains given they have a cap for computational capacity
Oh I mean it's impossible to know what the potential use or ramifications of this are, given a pop sci article about fucking Pong.
Wouldn't take this too seriously.
also if it doesn't require rare earth metals it's inherently more sustainable if you don't need large computers to run it, which would have long term benefits.
if enslaving conscious beings is required for "sustainable" computing then fuck computing no cap
enslaving conscious beings
This is a collection of brain cells, it's not a conscious being.
Brain cells detached from a body aren't conscious beings though... Neither is a brain, obviously. There's nothing sapient about this. Just a few comrades shitposting about a better world in the face of manmade horrors beyond our comprehension. Chill a bit, climate collapse makes this all a bit of a moot point anyway.
and call them robots so they can be legally enslaved. don't forget that part.
You know it's kinda terrifying science when braincells in a Petrie dish can play pong better than you.
Not fair, they don't have bills and kids and arthritis :wojak-nooo:
But just think how much better at breathing and operating an absurdly complex mess of contracting squishy bits to move around both deliberately and precisely than them you are.
We gotta get these cells some lungs and a diaphragm and learn whether they are, in fact, worse at breathing than me
Wasn't that basically the original plot for the Matrix? The machines were using human brains in a massive cloud computing network or something
well, this wasn't the dystopia I expected but I guess I shouldn't complain
honestly technology merged with living cells is very cool and I could think of some very useful applications
but this is hellworld, they're gonna use it for drones
Ehh, it's iffy. A couple brain cells don't have consciousness. They can't feel pain, desire, sadness, etc. All of those are a result of the overall brain rather than any few cells. If we keep it to that it could be ok.
You're right (probably), but I'm more concerned that capitalism is not inclined to "keep it to that"
What the fuck even is the human brain lmao
you read Capital or any other dense ass book and you're like "damn human brain/consciousness go crazy"
It's reported the human brain cells, placed on a victory podium, communicated through morsecode: "My presence here consecrates the victory of the flesh over the machine."
So there is a dark scifi future where E-girls sell ganglion clusters to drop in your gaming rig. There is a little peetree dish looking ram board you have to occasionally mist and gove some fish flakes. Doritos sells a branded version of pro gamer e-girl flakes.
You use that piece of egirl to run a standard ai to generate an e-girl dating sim. You are dating.
You have created the ship of thesisus... I am both scared and proud of thsi joke.
This makes sense, if you believe Roger Penrose's theory on Consciousness etc.
"super ai is unrealistic"
"so we don't have to worry about it taking over the world?"
"but we're replacing it with racks of human brains doing computations under threat of pain for capital"
"what the actual fuck"
ah sweet! manmade horrors beyond my comprehension :comfy-cool:
