Honestly, that dude looks American, not Ukrainian. The beard, uniform and gear (especially the helmet), and choice of sunglasses looks like something US Special Forces would wear, and that is who I suspect this really is. In fact, I’m like 99% sure of it.

Even if he’s former US military, I’m not sure he’d have stuff like like fancy mounts for night vision gear on an open-ear helmet, unless he has the money and connections to purchase such things as a civilian.
This is the helmet that appears to be worn in the photo, and that goes for $1400 apiece according to the article. I would also assume that helmet is being worn to make use night vision goggles, which are at least several thousand dollars apiece.
I mean, it could be possible that this is just some weird Azov chud trying his hardest to look like US special ops, but I kind of doubt it, and it would make perfect sense that US Special Forces are on the ground in Ukraine training groups like Azov and providing them with weapons.
