they do an ep like every few weeks or so. it's out of berkley and been around since before like podcasts exploded, so sometimes the audio levels are a little low, but it's the most informative podcast i listen to. some of the topics are wild. it's a truly educational format with the host doing insightful Q and A with an author of a book (invariably some young-ish academic and the book is like the result of years of painstaking research) about the topic.
i recommend it to everybody because i really like it, but nobody else ever gets into it. so i guess i'm a fuckin' massive dork.
Suzanna Reiss on Drug Control, Coca-Cola, and Pharmaceuticals
Today’s guest discusses the history of the coca leaf and the U.S. drug control regime. Amongst other topics, we discuss the importance of coca to both Coca-Cola and Merck and the pharmaceutical industry. For Suzanna Reiss, this provides a way to interpret the history of capitalism across the mid-twentieth century and after.
Suzanna Reiss is Associate Professor of History at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. She is author of We Sell Drugs: The Alchemy of US Empire. https://whomakescents.libsyn.com/suzanna-reiss-on-drug-control-coca-cola-and-pharmaceuticals
