pretty fucked, can't wait to see if Sleepy Joe can pull off a prisoner swap while tens of thousands of Black Americans rot in prison for weed possession

She was wrongfully sentenced. The amount she had on her would give her 15 days in jail. She had no intent to distribute. 9 years for a gram of hashish.... come on

If the sentence for under 2 grams of hashish is 15 days in prison or a fine, does it make sense to detain someone for 5 months conspiring to distribute weed? I think its pretty clear here that she is a political prisoner. Would the US do the same thing? Yes most likely, but it still sucks that someone who at most should have been fined is getting sentenced to 9 years

Tbh this was definitely a political prisoner type situation. Under their own laws she gets like a month in prison for this. She obviously wasn't looking to distribute with less than a gram of oil. It's absurd on its face. It's a shame she is caught in the political crossfire.

Yeah I read somewhere that the sentencing judge straight out said that the sentence was partially retaliation for America trying to politicize the trial.

        Stalinist

        Opinion discarded.

Also, how the fuck is this victim blaming? Omega didn't even mention Griner in that comment. Placing Russia's reactionary attitudes within a larger context that the US pushed them towards those attitudes is just historical materialism.

Uh hello? I'm referring to the war on drugs which the US started and forced many MANY countries into participating in despite a local and historical apathy towards drug usage, particularly marijuana. Instead you think that I'm asserting that bc the west has adopted a more (and only somewhat better view, lmao) lackadaisical approach to marijuana legalization, that the Russians were somehow in their right to oppose it now? Huh?

I want every Russian to become a homosexual. That’s why Khrushchev murdered me, he was jealous of my ideas.

Thinking Queer Rights are somehow a luxury product is western decadence. There are many native LGBTQIA orgs and groups in Russia.

Repeating the myth that queerness is all CIA funded is doing the job of the Russian Orthodox church for them.

          Russia is a conservative country

Bah, insulting. After the next revolution, just purge the Russian Orthodox church and gulag biggots again. Countries become socially liberated when you re-educate and/or execute anyone hateful that gets in the way.

"I'm pro-LGBT and we should punish 40% of the population for their religion"

It's so wild how you people literally prove my points in attempting to refute them. You're literally just anti-Communist propaganda personified.

So you support these types of draconian anti-drug laws? I can understand why they exist, but it doesn't make them right.

Other countries are allowed to choose their laws.

Why would I complain about something I can't influence, or at least can't influence without feeding into imperialist normalcy?

Oh okay. If you're "anti-imperialist" then you can never be imperialist. Just like all those people who say they're anti-imperialist and want Ukraine to destroy Russia with the help of EU and the US.

Glad you're so sure of yourself because that can never have an effect on susceptibility.

You're being a contrarian and disguising it as being anti-imperialist. I could use your exact logic to browbeat people for criticizing Iran for their homophobic laws. Quit being a douche.

Yeah, that's exactly what you should do. People in the Imperial core do not get to criticise the Imperialised nations of the world.

It's not about morals, it's about knowing when to shut up and not participate in the shit Imperial powers promote.

When the US lost its grip on Afghanistan the news was littered with posts about how sad it's going to be for women in education. Do you think that was a mistake?

America is going to use marijuana legalization as a casus belli, despite it not even being legal in the states, and them being partly responsible for the widespread adoption of anti-drug policies?

I'm actually going to say that any country that thinks it's okay to lock people up for marijuana should change its drug laws. It's a needlessly cruel punishment for a victimless crime and even if you want to argue that drugs are bad for society, it's not like people aren't still getting legally drunk.
