Matt Taibi was on Bill Maher’s HBO show defending Pelosi saying what she did is cool and principled because China is a “human rights violator” and it’s “worth taking a stance sometimes.”

And it’s because of the “donors” with commercial interests in China that most politicians are reluctant to speak out.

Hero.

I hope the sanctions have at least some material consequence.

It's insane. Even from a pro-Taiwan perspective, what Pelosi did was stupidly rash. For everyday folks in Taiwan, not 'rocking the boat' is what's best for cross-strait relations.

Edit: so in effect, Taibi is saying that Taiwan people should be used as geopolitical pawns and put into the crossfire just so Pelosi can scold China

He was fine when Bernie was running because he was well connected into the campaign establishment and could provide some insight (which turned out to be wildly and stupidly optimistic, just like the Bernie campaign staff) but he has been complete dogshit at analysis forever, he is literally just willing to go onto any talk show to spew his nonsense.

Remember when the DNC [legally, the courts ruled that they were within their rights to do so as a private company] rigged their primary and cheated Bernie out of the nomination? And then chose the only person in the USA capable of losing to Trump?

          Good times, good times.

Parenti really did not like post mao China and called it socialist in name only, basically a whole chapter in black shirts and reds ragging on post mao China and he also supported tibetan independence so it’s not a huge stretch to think Parenti would be posting things that would get put in the dunk tank if he didn’t have dementia and was on twitter :vivian-shrug:

it's wild how Taibi manages to get more and more deranged with increasingly shit takes. for a while he seemed ok-ish, but it's like 2020 just completely melted his brain along with so many other people too

Lol it's funny that he got so mad at edgy twitter maoists in his replies that he's just parroting state department talking points and defending Pelosi. This rocks so much.

Will America ever learn that actions can have consequences, even if you can find a way to vaguely justify them?

Even if you believe everything they say about human rights, nothing good came out of the visit except increased tensions

And it’s because of the “donors” with commercial interests in China that most politicians are reluctant to speak out.

There's a gain of truth to this, but it really boils down to "China is the center of the global economy and nobody shamelessly yoked to Cold War politics seriously wants to butt heads with them."

I genuinely wonder if a day will come when someone just flips a switch on the media from "China Bad" to "China Good" because that's where the money is at

I feel like anyone who goes on Bill Maher should automatically have their leftist credentials revoked.

It's okay to go on Bill Maher but only if you make a good faith effort to make Bill cry or say the N word.

That Maher still goes on about cancel culture after he got away with saying the N word would be really funny to me, except nothing about Bill Maher is funny :smurf-cursed:
