I think a lot of the appeal of hoteps is just white people's fault for lying about history. A lot of lies are told about African history, and certain stages of Egyptian civilization were provably Sub-Saharan African.
When Black people are endlessly attacked for acknowledging these facts, a very natural inclination would be to disregard anything said by whites altogether
Furthermore, liars and charlatans can easily attract these people to their insane ideas by combining bits of the controversial-but-somewhat-true facts (stuff about Egypt) with batshit insane stuff (like the Israelites were Black, anti-Jewish sentiment, etc). People are lured in by the first stuff, end up accepting everything wholesale, and now you have a bunch of Black people who think they're from Palestine (or that they were Native Americans)
I'm not Black, but I can see where the "fed-upness" could come from, because SNOWTEPS do the same thing to every other race of people (claiming that Genghis Khan was white, that whites were Native Americans, claiming to be "Aryans" and/or "Caucasians", both of which are COMPLETELY FALSE but are widely accepted as truth because most people really have no idea how fucking brainwashed they are)
