Just saw Hasan and Felix (from Chapo) talk about how there's been a revamp?

I listened to it a long time ago and didn't really like it.

BTW, is this the (old, but ig also new) trinity of left podcasts - Chapo, True Anon, Cumtown?

Any others?

Edit - From the Wikipedia article on the Dirtbag Left, it seems the Starter Pack would also include Street Fight Radio and Red Scare.

I'm gonna stop you right there

It's primarily a comedy podcast, where the comedy essentially consists of getting as close to saying racial slurs as possible without actually saying them. The hosts are vaguely left adjacent because they're friends with the Chapo peeps in some capacity, but mostly they don't really take any political stances/seem to have much in way of political interests/values.

Hmm, so of the five, I guess the three worth listening to are Chapo, True Anon, and Street Fight Radio?

I used to listen to a lot of The Antifada, you could check them out too. I fell out of podcats a while ago so I dunno if they've changed very much since then but they were always pretty good. One of their hosts, Sean KB, did the History is a Weapon series with :matt-jokerfied:

I guess that depends on what you're trying to get out of the podcast. I enjoy those pods personally, and believe that they are personally invested in the project of socialism.

I listened to Cumtown prior to Stav leaving - but like, because I enjoy their humor, not because there was necessarily anything of substance to be taken away from the pod. I don't know what it's like sans Stav, I have to imagine that it sucks, but I might be wrong. Red Scare has never had any value in any capacity to me, subjectively I don't understand who could possibly enjoy that pod.

It's just a comedy podcast, they make fun of everybody. The hosts happen to be friends with a lot of online leftist media people, but I wouldn't call it a "leftist" podcast, even if they often make jokes from a left POV. Their main focus is just humor.

Most of the time Nick has an honest take it's a good one. He did a gay Andrew Cuomo impression, and talked about how fucked it was that the media was talking about his sexual harassment and not all the old people he kinda murdered with his COVID policy

The joke is the absurdity of Cuomo holding a press conference to announce that the vaccine would be going into his ass and balls, and that all elderly people will be required to bodily enter his rectum to receive the vaccine

          Very highbrow and sophisticated

When we all have our "Chapo is just a podcast past its prime that few of us listen to anymore" threads and then the next day everyone is talking about some obscure show Felix brought up as if it's just naturally become relevant. Similar vibes.

I for one am glad my real life friends Nick Mullen, Adam Friedland, and Stavros Halkias are there with me in the laundry room doing their highbrow and sophisticated bits like "Andrew Cuomo, but he's gay"

The most recent episode on economism was pretty interesting. I also really like all the ones that deal with philosophy, but that's my shit so ymmv. Also the recent one about mental health was pretty funny and validating.

I guess this is technically a Guerrilla History episode but still probably a good one to listen to: https://revolutionaryleftradio.libsyn.com/guerrilla-history-the-fragility-of-us-power-w-noam-chomsky-vijay-prashad

Also this is over a year old now so not sure if really "recent", but I thought it was one of the more interesting episodes I've listened to: https://revolutionaryleftradio.libsyn.com/malm

Dasha dated Adam who does a podcast with Nick who was roommates with Amber

It’s really that simple and nepotistic, it’s the Chapo parasocial cinematic universe

Dasha also went viral for clowning on infowars that one time, which makes her turning into a weirdo neoreactionary tradcath who hangs out with Alex Jones all the funnier. There was some piece about the bizarre reactionary art film scene she's a part of that got posted here a month or two ago that was just pure psychic damage. Like it's just a bunch of bizarre rich kid reactionaries making low budget avante garde films where the dialogue is mostly slurs.

Perfume nationalist was outed as having nazi roots. The red scarers apparently went on that. And I saw that the not-Dasha one was cozying up to terfs.

To be fair to Chapo, the others are kind of hangers-on that just got attention in their wake. I don’t think Chapo did anything to promote redscare, there was just a lot of overlap in lonely millennial internet leftists who want friends I guess and these different flavors of people filled that gap

Dasha went viral for a second in the post-2016 election period as 'Sailor Socialism' and both of them adopted the dirtbag left thing while it was trendy in Brooklyn but have since moved on to the tradcath thing

Cumtown has always been a guilty pleasure ever since I first heard the "woke Italian mobsters" bit, but Adam Friedland Show is Nick and Adam (mostly Nick) using Stav's departure as an excuse to try new shit. I think Nick was tired of being stuck in a rut and churning out lazy garbage for easy money, hating himself for it, and now they're putting effort into it now. The video clips have a serious Eric Andre kinda vibe, and the ongoing meta-story about them "trying to make this show work" while Nick continues to be a fully self-aware self-destructing manchild the entire time is honestly a rich vein for them to mine for humor.

TLDR Cumtown was always good :sus-lovecraft:

It used to be that various newbies to the subreddit (and also regulars, one of which you really remind me of lol) would spark a struggle session, and a lot of us got to have our moment to watch and :side-eye-1: :side-eye-2: without getting involved. Since you're on your own as a newcomer (cause we have no feeder pipeline) you're stuck taking it all directly.

  • Crucible [he/him, comrade/them]

Stav was the only actual lefty on Cumtown, and without him I don't find the show as funny. Nick actually cares now, though, so the quality is a bit higher since he isn't constantly eating directly into the mic.

Never really listened to Street Fight but they're where the Chapo boys all first interacted so they're the OG podcast. My trinity of podcasts are Chapo, True Anon, and Trashfuture

These days Street Fight is good depending on the guest. It was a duo and now it's just murderxbryan talking about random stuff, which I would probably not find compelling if I hadn't already been listening for a few years.

The deprogram is good. It's been one of my favorites since it started. It's a good mix of information and humor, and a more international perspective than usual.

Just saw that Cumtown ended and was succeeded by The Adam Friedland Show, whose subreddit says it's a center-left podcast and is pro-Israel.

      Unless that's a joke, I guess it's not good.
