I tried to explain to my mom why I don't want to go to Shen Yun with her the next time I visited but she agreed with all their insane ideas about evolution being a lie and science being a communist plot. Luckily she thinks yoga is also sacrilegious so explaining Qigong finally got her to turn on it.

I had to beg a coworker of mine not to go to a Shenyun show. She did anyway and there was apparently a part with happy dancing in a meadow, and then a giant Karl Marx head arises from the background and drenched everything in red. Like the big head from Zardoz or something. And then communist party guys come out and beat everyone with imaginary sticks.

I told her that sounds rad as hell, and she got mad lol. She was like "This is their history! That really happened!" But my coworker was nuts and used to listen to Joel Osteen at work.

      Karl Marx really did that.

Karl Marx = Andoss from Star Fox confirmed.

His floating head, shooting out polygons, killed 100,000,000 people at least.

Bullshit, they weren't even in China for COVID

I can't believe even the Falun Gong have now abandoned over 5000 years of Chinese history

Go and laugh and clap at all the "wrong" parts. Stand up and sing the Internationale when they lift up the Marx head. :sankara-salute:

I remember reading about the giant Marx head, and thinking "that fucking rules". I wish i didn't have to sit through the whole expoitative performance to see giant Marx painting the stage red.

Tell her that if the US ever had the balls to prosecute the Church of Scientology, this is exactly the same kind of whiny bullshit play they'd write about it.

like the chapos said in the recent episode on Harlan Crow in far clearer terms than I can remember, reactionary art aspires to a flat representation of its subject that doesn't evoke more than familiar recognition. "hotel art"

From what I've seen and read online, there are like 10 minutes is weird anti-communism stuff in Shen Yun. The rest of the 2 hours is just a shitty version of Chinese song and dance.

Like Chinese song and dance shows are amazing, the numbers on the yearly new year's gala are great and basically do the same thing Shen Yun does and tell traditional stories and myths. Also there are a lot of Communist specific shows which have been produced which are insanely good.

Not only that, but the musicians on the live orchestra have it pretty bad, because of course Shen Yun would treat workers like shit. All the dancers have to be members of the Falun Gong, but the musicians don't, so they get mistreated and overworked.

It's always disheartening to hear how this sort of griftery spreads, even in cultures that - on paper - should be more resilient to it.

As a dude who has been hating on Shen Yun to coworkers for years and knew about the segregated heaven, flying, homophobia, opposition to airplanes, opposition to medicine, aliens, etc I have to say, I was still shocked by the burning a 12 year old thing. That shit has been buried, nobody talks about it.

The fact that CNN seemingly knew in advance and just watched while they doused the kid in gas is also sickening.
