Who am I kidding, that’s this nation’s favorite past time!

Other minorities rejoice…you’re finally at the white kids’ table, for the next 6 months or whatever.

    Harvard's current student body:

    39.6% White, 27.5% Asian, 10.8% Hispanic/Latino, 9.3% African American, 2.2% Native American/Alaskan Native/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and 10.6% mixed-race or unknown

    US's current racial makeup:

    60% White, 6% Asian, 20% Hispanic/Latino, 13% Black, 1.6% Native, 3% mixed-race

So even with their weak-ass AA policies, they're still way way way off being even close to representative.

That can’t be right people all day on twitter have assured me white and Asian people aren’t getting in!

That's interesting, way closer to representative than I thought, but yeah lmayo who complained about AA are clearly ignorant about all the wealth-based discrimination that more than eclipses any disadvantage they have because of AA.

The people who run Harvard are the libbest of libs, and if there is one thing libs care about and actually deliver on where they can it’s representation

Probably better to go to Harvard than the Stanford psychopath incubator. My uninformed, complete bullshit impression is that Harvard is for old money failsons coasting on damage their family has already done to the world, but Stanford is for deranged tech sector disruptors.

A lot of non-black “aspirating upper class” POC actually don’t oppose the white suprematist systems in place in the US, they just want to have an exclusive seat at the table and will use POC solidarity and radlib social revolutionism to gain social traction and shielding. Thats one of the major reasons why a “POC-only revolutionary alliance” will fail in this country.

No one ever complains about legacy admissions because that's why people want to go to Harvard.

The not well-connected white people blame minorities because that is who they compete with for spots. They want to one day be in the class (pun I guess) of people who get to have legacy admission kids.

see legacy admissions is an amateur hour way of preserving aristocratic status in an education institution. If they want this to last they should do what Oxford and Cambridge do and have them interview people before admission and that way they can screen out almost all the non aristocrats without explicitly doing that

After all why inscribe into a system ways of checking what you can tell from an accent

yeah but you can still tell who's an aristocrat and who isn't. From e.g. talking to them about their life experiences. Plus studying abroad is expensive so that is going to weed out a lot of people

People still blame the Soviet Union for what's going on in Russia these days despite the fact that it hasn't been the Soviet Union for decades...so yes. People don't know about or care about history and don't care to learn.

Affirmative action does make it so that an equally qualified black applicant is more likely to get in than a given white or especially asian applicant. But opponents miss 2 things. First, the given black applicant isn't less qualified by any way. You have to be smart to get into ivy leagues if you aren't a legacy with a library named after your dad, or on the stanford rowing team or some bs. Second, structural racism makes it so there are less black people who do all the shit that looks good on college applications. If you go to an underfunded school in a black neighborhood you won't get to join robotics club or do as well on sat or some shit. If you have to work for money, you don't have time to volunteer for shit.

Sure, they'll just switch to essays. There is an entire essay-writing industry for Ivy League aspirants. I'm sure they'll learn quickly what keywords to use and it'll be pretty easy for the admissions officers to detect BIPOC.

White assholes in my area never stopped blaming black people for not getting into white affluenza-afflicted colleges, and when they do get in they dogmatically blame it on affirmative action, which implies that black people shouldn't ever be in such white affluenza-afflicted colleges, only "legacy" failsons. lmayo us-foreign-policy
