Biden spent more time defending his son, talking about how he's pro-cop and getting the absolute shit kicked out of him by Trump on right wing and left talking points. At one point, Trump was bringing up the 1994 crime bill AND saying he wants to defund the police.
This is what the DNC wanted. They wanted their call back to the shitty Obama administration, they got it. Biden looked like a complete moron on that stage.
I think the Republicans are doing a big brain centrism by admitting systemic racism is real, but saying it’s all the democrats’ fault, while also saying the police are necessary and good, and bringing out black conservatives as speakers to back them up.
I think it's much simpler than that. They're just throwing every possible argument out there, even contradictory ones, because Republicans will lap up whatever they say and one argument might click with someone who's thinking about not voting for Biden.

Honestly Biden looked really good when he said that his son was a drug addict and that he was proud of how he worked to get better.
This is the sort of shit that makes marginal voters in small town PA decide to vote for Biden.
I really liked that he said that. I’m sure it was an explicit part of host strategy (they say x you say y) but it was a good thing for all the Americans dealing with addiction or who have a family member dealing with addiction.
