Said during an interview in 2016 link despite me being a lib who reads Pope shit Honestly Critical support for Francis if only so that he can continue to give the Tradcaths huge cases of butthurt and personally give me an easy road to introducing dialectical materialism and later full on socialism to the Latinx youth I work with.

Yeah, cuts out a lot of confusion. One brings communists closer to christians, the other bastardizes socialism because everyone's view of Jesus is different.

Chuds have hated this Pope from the start, because he speaks out about poverty and inequality.

They hated him even before he said anything as pope since he’s a Jesuit. And their big thing is education and philosophy (to the Jesuits its better to be an educated Critically thinking person who doesn’t believe in God then an uneducated beleiver) as well as their history of supporting And even helping found liberation theology.

If I were religious and to dedicate my life to a religious cause, becoming a Jesuit would be high on the list. Buddhist monk is another option I like though.

I have said this multiple times in the past week on here but American Catholics are just Protestants with more gold and bigger hats.

I mean most Catholics are poor. The church is rich as fuck bit Catholics are pretty working class.

Depends on almost wholly where you are. While it’s true Catholics in general are mostly poor in the Midwest and northeast most Catholics are white suburbanites

Oh shit no I didn’t mean to imply that! I had originally written “upper middle to upper class suburbanites” but I deleted it by mistake.

I tell this to my super Catholic dad all the time and he almost always had a melt down.

If heaven and hell exist the vast majority of Christians are going to hell. They are capitalist pigs. Church's tend to be a community that care for just that community.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up for treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages of the labourers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

People need to realize that when this pope is touted as "progressive", what he actually wants isn't progress, but a return to the more egalitarian early Church, closer to what Jesus taught according to the scriptures. There is no place for LGBT people, being pro-choice etc. in this vision.

Yeah man I know. Hence critical support I fucking hate the lack of shit he’s done about the abuse. It’s the #1 reason I give people for why I’m Not catholic anymore (Real reasons aren’t deeper but this shuts people up)

Not claiming at all that he’s great, or even good, or even ok really.

Yeah I grew up Catholic but fell out of it around 14 and completely rejected it by 16 but he would definitely give me a reason to go back to church if I still believed in anything resembling God in the Christian sense. Sucks that a lot of catholics are reactionary chuds who hear the literal words of Jesus and just toss it out because muh socialism Venezuala.

There’s a reason for that Which I still know from years of Jesuit education. You want the long form or the TLDR?

Alright so Francis’s main thing was his dedication to the poor and downtrodden. To the point where Franciscan brothers are required to take a major oath of poverty And Francis said In his final writing that living amongst the poor as one of them was the key tenant to his Order.

So a Pope taking his name is showing a connection and emphasis on the poor That most Popes previously wouldn’t want to make or have.

Last couple popes actually represent this

JP2 chose them name of his predecessor to show his commitment to continuing reforms (JP1 took the names of the 2 Previous Popes Who had lead Vatican 2)

Benedict took his name to show he was as traditional as physically possible

Francis took his name and made changes to show the Catholic Church is trying to emphasis the poor and helping others. Same reason he removed that god awful throne and replaced it with a wooden chair and added a bunch of admentites for the poor to use in Vatican city

Read Paolo Freire, he says only the christian and communist radicals would follow along or learn from his book.
