As the US elections draw near, I must once again bitch about being subjected to US cultural hegemony.

It's so fucking exhausting folks. Please, God, somebody invent the "Mute America" button. I would genuinely get one of those brain chips implanted in my head if it would allow me to smoothly silence any content about US politics.

As a weakling who only speaks two languages, I am cursed to either suffer my home country's discourse (which, trust me, is just as brainrotten as the US's if not more), or to stay in the anglophone media space where America reigns supreme. Nowhere is safe. There is no dark corner where I can hide from Trump's dementia-ridden quotes, or Gamers4Harris, or whichever way Musk is embarrassing himself this time, or the general attitude of people regularly forgetting that the world - and more specifically their online audience - does not all live in the US.

The world should institute a reverse Great Firewall to contain American discourse within the physical boundaries of the 50 states, like the dangerous infohazard that it is.

Please. I beg for mercy. We have suffered enough.

This is honestly the first reason why I came to hexbear. Every other social medís is FLOODED. Literally 80% of the times opening reddit/.world, "JAYTEE BANZ" and "KLANMALA HORRORS" and "LE ORANGE DRUMPF". It's seriously unbearable, exhausting, and it's been going for what feels like an eternity. Thanks y'all for being a relatively safe space from all of that

Pretty much. Even IRL in "progressive" spaces I've had to hear (and argued over it) shit like "Chinese TCM eat tigers" (yes, that actually happened) and "they're so racist, they'll spit on minorities" (also heard in same discussion actually, alongside "friend of a friend is getting oppressed for LGBT" with no details) and the "but HK/rogue Taipei/poor oppressed Uyghur militant-Wahhabis." (multiple times)

Fuck the cracKKKerverse (and it's a state of mind, decent white people are comrades and 100% welcome, hell my partner and many though not all friends are white). Fuck this shit so infinitely much.

Honestly even here there's a lot more circle jerking about not voting for Kamala for my taste. Literally don't care

inshallah first thing on the agenda once the US stops being a superpower is to wall it off, turn it into a giant biodome or outdoor museum. they will not be able to affect the world again, their brainworms opinions don't need to be heard by citizens of the earth, but we can still study them in their natural habitat and visit them to see curious things like people driving "trucks" to the "store" to by a "gallon" of malk

Agreed, we need to wall it off. And then move the wall inwards, a sort of "reverse Manifest Destiny" (literally undoing the Manifest Destiny mentality) with intensive deradicalization/de-Nazification re-education/etc before people get out. Those who still wish to dwell in their colonial mindset can go make a commune in some fenced off uninhabited region, or in a bunch of floaties in the Pacific garbage patch maybe. And we need to do that where I live (another Anglo settler country) please timmy-pray

This article is written in a flippant way, but really this is why the great fire wall exists.

I keep a US number on a voip service despite not having lived there in years. I just turned SMS off on the number until after the election. I can't mute the US 100% but I can at least turn off the vote -hounding

Same, I wish I could delet the English language from my brain (though I have no other language atm... need to learn Chinese) cri

Here is a oasis of human decency- well, I also know some decent people IRL I guess. But it's like living in a sea of hell. Honestly taken a major toll on me for a long time.

I couldn't agree more with every single aspect of this post. We need a great firewall, and the world needs to start sending all the worst of the burgerbrained (USians and those infected by Anglo or Euro brainrot) to uh... the great Pacific garbage patch or something, so the rest of us can live in peace.

It really is annoying and it’s hard to escape even in your native language sometimes because US social media is so pervasive.
