It's trendy these days to be anti colonialism, but as soon as you mention ireland all the support fizzles out. Fucks up with that? Most young people hate tories, hate british empire, etc etc, but then you say IRA and everyone gets scared. It's not even like my generation has an emotional attachment to it either - it's before our time

    I think one of the reasons the western left is soft on drugs is that we are in the imperial core and have roots in individualist counterculture.

    I think it might also have to do with the way the war on drugs itself has been used as a tool of oppression, in the US at least. What with the way it's been used as a pretense for imprisoning and enslaving people on massive scales for decades and everything.
