People are stupid, myself included, and I have no faith for them to do the right thing. However making the wrong choice and going to a bar should never have been an option for them. The problem here isn't these individuals, it's our political leadership and capitalism. They left businesses open because doing a real lockdown would make the money sad and the money doesn't care how many covid kills

its good that people are getting covid, according to capitalism. more medicine to sell, more money for for profit hospitals, more coffins, more mask, consolidation of retail to amazon, people buying home gym equipment, etc. there are definately somethings about the ruling class would perfer didn't happen, but at the end of the day, line goes up

In capitalist USA people have to wait in line for entertainment and a slight chance of getting laid. Show this picture to anyone who says that in communism you need to wait in line for food.

Living the Greek life rn in Greece by being forbidden from exiting your house without signing papers or notifying authorities because shit governments will be shit and they just totally lost control of the pandemic when there was no reason to.

Well it was fully under control here until some hotel and airline owners cried about muh profits so we opened up to tourism and we went from losing our shit at 5 cases per day to the government seeing the line go up and up and up into thousands of cases per day and being like "hmm, maybe if we make it illegal to buy alcohol after dusk it's gonna stop doing that" even though they knew very well what they had to do to make it stop because it is what they did the first time and it worked, until the hospitals got full, at which point they realized "shit we gotta go into full lockdown now".

          'cried about muh profits'

Siri define capitalism the only reason covid is spiking is because capitalism. If the state could pay for people to stay home and I dunno keep essential business afloat until it's nationalized, we would be over it. But muh cruise line industries etc...

Honestly I'm wary of the push to blame kids fresh out of high school for not having enough self control. I hate these people too but it's a bit too much of an "individual responsibility" narrative for me to be comfortable with - even if every college kid in the country was behaving we'd still be in a shit situation due to government inaction.

edit: Every college that sent kids back to live on campus did it purely for financial reasons, without taking good precautions, and knowing full well that students would go to bars and spread the virus. They pushed this narrative in official correspondence and it's now all over every college subreddit. It's pointless to blame these students, this is not where we should be directing our anger.
