By age 9, she says, she’d been raped by one of her older brothers. By 12, she’d been abused by her father, Abner*, a chiropractor who penetrated her with his fingers on the same table where he saw patients, telling her he was “flipping her uterus” to ensure her fertility. By 14, she says, three more brothers had raped her and she was being attacked in the hayloft or in her own bed multiple times a week. She would roll over afterward, ashamed and confused. The sisters who shared Sadie’s room (and even her bed) never woke up—or if they did, never said anything, although some later confided that they were being raped too.

      ...

Esther now says Amish leaders use lockup stays to silence women who are increasingly eager to go public with abuse allegations. “When a victim speaks out,” Esther explains, “they get sent to a facility and drugged so that they shut up.”

What trips me out is that they're Amish. Like, The US is so bad that even the Amish are being corrupted.

Or maybe the Amish have always been that bad, like Mormons. Who knows

Amish are pretty conservative, so I wouldn't be surprised if you find the usual roster of social conservatism. Their deeply patriarchal society has led to a huge amount of gendered abuse.

For me there is always a part of something interesting and maybe even admirable about traditional communities like that though. The intentional decision to reject particular technology is a fascinating social phenomenon to say the least.

I remember hearing about the abuse earlier this year. https://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a30284631/amish-sexual-abuse-incest-me-too/

I guess they are like the Mormons. https://www.latimes.com/news/la-na-sect12may12-story.html

This image gave me Vietnam flashbacks but instead of war crimes it's just the words "Admire Joke Boast Coerce" around a weird circle. Probably nothing.
