yeah but it does own that they actually did a lockdown until there was zero cases. Unlike the UK which did a month long lockdown, which significantly reduced cases, and then went nbd xmas time now :^)

      Yea

Just because they have some geographic advantages doesn't mean it was pre-determined to go well

They could have easily fucked around and allowed it to run wild

Most Australian states introduced border controls, including city/regional borders too.

The only thing Australians are allowed to be smugly proud of is surviving bites from sea serpents

Sure the population is low, but both countries rely on tourism and international students/labour; these countries were prime for massive influxes of covid. It is an achievement that they have not been consumed by the pandemic. Things have gone well in Aus despite our politicians. This is because the public health system and the Department of Health have a lot of power. Essentially everything negative that happened, like opening up too early and being too slow to enforce lockdown was because of the politicians wanting to pretend things are normal. But because the Dept of Health is half decent, they were able to strongarm politicians into enforcing lockdowns, turning private hospitals into testing centers and opening up beds for covid patients, setting up drive through testing centers, equipping rural hospitals with the means to handle covid patients, and even right now would have advised every state to close borders to NSW as swiftly as they did.

Scomo doing the trade war is what happens when he is allowed to do his own thing, which is exactly what you'd expect from a conservative piece of shit. What he has done for covid has very little to do with his own policies, especially since he can't stop complaining about Labor run states.

    Couple of things:

Firstly, Australia didn't do well with COVID and I've never claimed as such. We locked down slowly and we keep fucking up by opening back too early. Last I checked we keep getting new waves. The only reason we're not as fucked as others is because all our towns and cities are spread out. We kept accidentally letting cruises unload infected passengers without quarantine ffs, we did a shit job.

Secondly, New Zealand is a totally different story to Australia. They locked down quickly and actually enforced social distancing and masks. They aren't perfect, but they did a hell of a lot better than the US and Australia.

Agreed that Scott sucks though. Absolute ghoul.

Yea, no one would care if Australia and New Zealand were gone. But just imagine the celebrations if all us non US folks all woke up tomorrow and there is a new ocean where the USA used to be.

Seriously what is your point here? You are basically jealous that they get to live? Why post this at all?

Continue my California hate this morning but they are like Californians on a global scale. Just never shutting the fuck up about how “they did it right”. Which if they are like Californians they will keep bragging right up until a major outbreak happens again and then it’s going to “super serious business” to help them out.

Anyways I should just log off for the day. It’s one of those mornings

Edit: this is more for New Zealand than the Aussies.

OK but I have family that lives in Australia and from what I heard they actually took much more meaningful measures for the second wave than almost anyone else. They also did some dumb and shitty things but it wasn't a complete disaster like everywhere else.

I mean jacinda ardern's a lib but it's definitely cool that I can actually go outside without having to worry in the slightest about contracting & spreading a deadly disease
