Honestly, why does anyone post under their real name?

Is it good practice, when sharing a tweet or thread, to link an archived version of it rather than a picture?

So, anybody taking bets on when he joins the conservative free-speech circuit?

I doubt it considering he was mocking white supremacists in a bunch of those tweets.

Seems like the guy just has a weird sense of humor and thinks it's okay to use slurs/racism ironically.

I'd guess (hope) he just takes the route of trying to clean up the mess.

The guy is peak Gen X stereotypes. He was in a band, lives in Seattle, and thinks bad words are fun to use ironically.

I don't think he's been hiding his power level or anything, he's just an idiot who tried to post through it.

Also, for the love of god, posting about your kids is the Russian Roulette of Twitter. If your post that at all mentions your kid(s) gets big enough, someone, somewhere, will accuse you of child abuse. It's not worth it!

Following Liz Bruenig, she does a kid post and it's like

        " how cute"

"aww, liz you have the sweetest family"

        "more baby pictures liz!"

"LIZ YOU MURDERED MY BABY YOU PSYCHOPATH!"

"OMG she looks so much like matt"

I thought we were mocking the guy for being a long winded twitter weirdo of the day.

I didn't seriously think he was sitting around for 6 hours while his kid was trying to open beans. It just looked like amazing pasta.

2021 memes are starting out great. It has everything. Twitter drama, weird pompous reddit tier copy pasta, the twist dirty laundry. Chef's kiss.

The level of harm directed at this dude right now seems disproportionate to the level of harm he has caused.

He lost one contract, who cares? More importantly, what do you want done about it? Should there be a law against pointing out racist tweets? Because the "harm" done to him outside of losing a contract due to bad PR (which is always a possibility for an entertainer), is people posting about him.

I mean the real irony off :freeze-peach: warriors on cancel culture is that it literally demands that thousands of people be silenced so that a few comedians and pundits don't have to learn how auto-delete scripts work.

More importantly, what do you want done about it?

I want Twitter users to log the fuck off instead of deciding how much punishment is enough for people who used to tweet shitty things but have changed their attitudes since then.

He lost one contract, who cares?

Literally more harm than anything people are bringing up. I'm sure his daughter will benefit greatly from the impact that his wikipedia page making him sound like weev or Richard Spencer will have on his career as well. Well done.

When did they do this? All I saw were various people dunking on him, no one was doling out punishment. You're pro free speech, right? Why shouldn't they be allowed to post screenshots?

Literally more harm than anything people are bringing up. I’m sure his daughter will benefit greatly from the impact that his wikipedia page making him sound like weev or Richard Spencer will have on his career as well.

Okay? He entered a career which is very PR heavy, he should be careful with his PR. It's not like he was unaware of this a decade ago, corporate gigs have always been a thing. Comedians and musicians have always been aware of the dichotomy of having a clean and presentable act and public image or having to give up corporate gigs. And again, what's the response? Abolish the discussion of anyone's behaviour ever? Should these twitter accounts be banned? What do you want, because, again, there was no tribunal. Some people posted some screenshots, and I don't see how you expect such behaviour to be controlled without a completely totalitarian response.

            You’re pro free speech, right?

This discussion has nothing to do with "free speech". I also don't really care about free speech and think that in general it's fine for the government to limit it.

Okay? He entered a career which is very PR heavy, he should be careful with his PR.

            Irrelevant victim blaming.

Identify users who stir up brigades and witch hunts and ban them from the platform. Look into restorative justice (typically via seizing assets or wealth and distributing them to victims of harassment) for the ones who persist.

            completely totalitarian response

"Totalitarian" is a fake word for babies invented to make it seem like communist governments are unique in oppression.

              Irrelevant victim blaming.

It's not irrelevant, lol. If I posted a joke about my students on Facebook, I would likely be put on leave. It's not victim blaming to say that I should not have posted jokes about my students on Facebook.

Identify users who stir up brigades and witch hunts and ban them from the platform.

So literally anyone who links to a tweet? You really want to stop any discussion of people like Pete Buttigieg, and David Frum because one random musician lost one contract?

Look into restorative justice (typically via seizing assets or wealth and distributing them to victims of harassment) for the ones who persist.

You really want some poor guy in his early 20s who is $10s of thousands in debt to give up some of his meager wealth because he hurt David Frum's feelings?

“Totalitarian” is a fake word for babies invented to make it seem like communist governments are unique in oppression.

I'm clearly not using here to attack communism, lmao. Get a grip.

Why? Lol, literally what do you want changed? Should twitter ban users from discussing racism? Should dunking on blue check accounts be illegal? Maybe cops should do "wellness checks" on people who participate in cancel culture? Why exactly do you want rich pundits doing more "toxic bernie bro" discourse, except targeted at "cancel culture" accounts? "Cancel culture" is literally just posting, and I don't care that someone who went into a PR heavy field and was bad at PR lost a contract.

No, it's not important to me. Which is why I don't think it's interesting to discuss. Especially since I don't see any solution to people dunking on other people which aren't heavy handed and totalitarian. But go ahead, I'll listen to your discussion. How do you solve the perceived problem? What do you do with random individuals that dunked on this guy?

I don't know what you are doing but just stop it. its fucking weird. Now; this is an instance of too much cancel culture so we should discuss it in order to reduce its amount

How do you stop it? Lol. If there's nothing to be done, I don't see why it needs to be discussed. Also, I thought dunking on that weirdo's treatment of his kid was fun, so idk, I don't want anyone stopping that. I don't want to stop dunking on weird dudes just because it triggers some people.

Lol, that's kind of an absurd abstraction. A more charitable reading is that I don't think tackling individual behaviour is something that can be addressed with having a conversation alone. If you want stricter worker protections, fine. But I don't think you're going to stop magically people from posting.
