Lol it's like some of you guys haven't had your preconceived notions challenged before.

Transfolks are a marginalized community, they are telling you something is wrong, so as leftists you are supposed to be listening, not imposing your hot takes.

Obviously this isn't everyone here, but like I'm reading through the modlogs and there's plenty of dipshits trying to make some kind of point. Seems like a lot of them have been here awhile too, we have a post on the front page calling transphobia "drama" lmao

I'm cis, I'm still learning a lot, but this is really the only way to further your commitment to the cause.

Also the lack of downvotes basically worked like a honeypot in this community, unsure if that was the intended purpose. But with the lack of downvotes pushing these obviously bad takes downwards, it just shows that there's a fair amount of people pushing the shit up no matter what.

Smells like some latent biases kicking around.

If anything, the lack of a downvote is driving some of the bad actors out into the open, now that they can't just press a button to harass people.

more than anything, without a downvote controversial posts can only go up. if you say "wel ratio them with comments" guess what, commenting promotes posts here.

The idea is to just not engage with transphobic discussions though lol

Like report and throw an own in, sure, but people upvote the shit and enter into discussion.

Most the community is solid, but there's a small presence of reactionary shit lords that seem to be within it. Not just coming here to troll, but actually attempting to engage with their shit takes and some people are just eating it up.

The fact that you can't downvote it doesn't matter, what matters is that there is a presence that wants it here. Thus the sole upvote feature exposing that part of the community easier.

It's like if any other community was cool and you enjoyed it and got along with most of the discussions, but also there was a nazi section of it who are there and enjoying it as well. Why would you want to stay part of it?

ill be real, i dont think there is a "nazi section" more than any other place online. if anything it's people who arent part of the website and sometimes come in to own the libs and then there is people who arent quite good enough etiquette wise to transpeople, who for example just disregard trans complaints. at this point most of the bans we are issuing are to people who are just ignorant of this conversation, not fully malignant bloodlust-y transphobia.

back to the thing you actually commented about lol

yes but when people cast bait, they are gonna get responses. it's just how it works, especially here where we have so many "posters" who just want to comment as much as possible. like, no shit, this is how twitter works, do i want the site to function like twitter?

Mods seem pretty generous with unbanning people in these cases

The mods are able to tell when it's just someone coming in to stir the pot from off-site though. That's expected and not the issue, it's people who are active parts of this community that are.

This is complete bullshit. literally the opposite is true. Downvotes were being weaponized to put marginalized folks down.

I'm saying it's good to remove the downvotes, it just had the secondary effect of showing that the community as a whole will still upvote transphobic shit.

Yeah it feels like shit to have your internal biases challenged because it means you're wrong and you're getting owned but then you get to grow and be the one who owns

The problem is transphobia can be more innocuos like sidelining trans concerns. Some of these guys are unironically doing the Ben Shapiro thing of “show me a law that’s racist in how it’s written!” when they argue just cuz they didn’t overtly say something wildly fucked they can’t be transphobic while consistently talking over trans people.

Yeah totally. There's been way more than enough warnings, if you don't get it by now you're not even trying and just here acting in bad faith.
