We need a /c/agitprop that's just a reservoir of memes and image macros to spam on other forums at times like these

Selecting relevant quotes from "hardcore theory" and presenting them in meme form, however, is a good idea. :lenin-shining:

Of course I wouldn't tell them to read hardcore theory first. I usually recommend they start by learning German first so they can read Das Kapital correctly.

Also, if they're total noobs, they should probably start with Hegel's The Science of Logic (in German of course) first in order to properly grasp Marx's method before tackling Capital.

And really you have to start with Phenomenology of Spirit or else the The Science of Logic will be an incomprehensible mess. Of course then you'll need to read Kant to understand where Hegel is diverging from, and then you'll need.... fuck it never ends.

If you do want to recommend a book, however, Blackshirts and Reds is 🔥

Don't recommend people books, it's lazy and no one reads books, especially on WSB.

Recommending a book or a communist economist's works is a shortcut that does nothing but makes us feel like we've done something.

I'm extremely thankful that someone recommended Blackshirts and Reds to me a while back; specifically because reading it did a lot to strengthen my beliefs in Communism by grounding them in a more solid foundation then memes or infotainment videos could possibly offer.

I think it's similar to how, for a lot of people on this site, reading "Trans Liberation: Beyond Pink or Blue" expanded and clarified their understanding of trans liberation in a manner that no amount of memes are able to.

Plenty of people read books; this community often worries that r/WSB types are reading a lot of the wrong ones (ie: 12 rules for life). Last summer I was able to get a lot of success by recommending books of Black communists, to well-meaning libs in the midst of the BLM uprising.

Any recommendations? I remember back then that someone called me out on the whiteness of the literature I was recommending, which was valid but I never really got to the point of addressing it.

To really introduce yourself to leftism you need to first start with the classics: Aristotle, Descartes, Socrates, Plato, Locke, and Kant. Then you'll have the necessary foundation to tackle Hegel, after which you'll maybe be able to understand Marx.

Actually one day when I was walking down the street a hardcover of Das Kapital fell on my head. After I awoke from the coma 7 months later I made an account on this website and started telling people to 'organize!' and to 'read theory!' :marx: all i'm saying is, it's possible.

Absolutely, thats how a whole lot of us got our starts, lets give these newbies the same, generally more accessible intro that we had. Also, given the sort of humour and such they seem to be into, i can't help but think trueanon (and, as loath as we may be to go back to them, maybe the more jokerfied Chapo segments) would probably be a solid recomendation. Far more solid than just throwing state and rev at them.

Edit: fuck it, posted the Brace rat rant.

THIS IS WHAT GRAVEL INSTITUTE VIDEOS ARE FOR

Seriously if you suggest people read theory you will drive them away. Idc how short or approachable it is. No one wants to be told to go read

I looked quick and didn't see it recommended but Why socialism? By Albert Einstein is an easy short read written by someone people respect and will probably be more open minded to.
