In my view, and I've sort of been on my fuck wealthy people shit all day after previously sort of enjoying the meme, it's not any of this stuff that is the problem. I'm not going to cry over any hurt hedge funds, and also I fully support the people who have benefitted from this and have been able to pay off debt, etc. I personally have not found any possibility for radicalization among my friends and acquaintances during this, but it doesn't hurt anyone to try and radicalize - if one thinks there is a possibility then go for it.

What I, and I believe others, have been a bit upset about is I suppose the lack of analysis that seems to be coming from people amidst all of this. When all this took off there were a number of posts and comments about some hedge funds actually benefitting from this - a lot of which got met with the old, oh you're mad people in a capitalist system are taking part in capitalism? I don't think anyone is mad at the chapo putting like $80 into this thing. Even if there's a chapo out there with like 10k in this thing, that's not really a problem. But we need to analyze this whole situation from a leftist perspective. Instead there's been a ton of simplistic takes framing this whole thing as revolutionary praxis, a rise in class consciousness (on wallstreetbets of all places) and framing u/deep_fucking_value as somehow a comrade. FWIW I supported the finance comm, and I think this does show us that the stock market is a possible tool for the left, but I wish we could analyze this a bit more more rather than getting "Marx was a day trader" all day long.

Hope this didn't come off as aggressive lol, just trying respond from the other point of view

yeah i saw that "users are jealous" comment lol. Literally a capitalist talking point. sucks cause I've seen a ton of solid takes from chapos during many of the big events this and last year, like during BLM and the capitol hill thing, but the discourse around this is real bad.

damn yeah i miss @the_river_cass , that was one of the shitty moments on this site, when she left. Really the whole trans exodus was definitely one of the low points of this site. also I think @SorosFootSoldier left today over all this, another poster I liked.

i see good takes often and learn a lot from people on this site, but the site wide struggle sessions really bring out the worst takes. I try to tell myself we're all just libs trying to learn, but it does get hard sometimes

I mean like I am jealous, but I haven’t really been participating in the discourse.

true but I meant like, capitalists often say leftists are just jealous of rich people and that's why they're anti-capitalist. Like yeah I am jealous of rich people of course I wish I had money, but that's not why I'm anti-capitalist

No I think you're right, that's why I supported the finance comm, because I think this does present interesting possibilities for praxis. I don't think that praxis is going to look like a re-creation of wallstreetbets - but leftist, but I do think we need to discuss how the possibilities that this presents can be used for praxis

I agree with the take as well but I don't see how bullying comrades who disagree accomplishes anything.

Also I don't see how justification for the GME gambling necessarily invalidates the feelings of alienation being expressed in the OP.

Or maybe the op is feeling shitty about how other people are talking about gambling the amount they make and barely survive off of.

Anyone who has a thousand dollars to waste and instead of using it on helping others or at the very least saving it for themselves and instead decides to invest in stonks is acting against their class interests.

Also I deeply disagree that this will radicalize people. I imagine the net radicalization will be to right libertarianism.

Also capitalists aren’t going to actually get hurt from this. It’s the workers foolishly gambling their money who will. The capitalist can afford to lose.
