I heard a story that some kind of very early online game, some kind of mixed graphical/text RPG, was really dedicated to adding as many things from reality as possible. Devs would just add any interaction they could think of. So like different styles of fighting, pickpocketing, shaking hands, riding under the bottom of a wagon, or whatever, all this was easy to implement as it was mostly just text to display or numbers to change, and if necessary could be handled by a d20 roll or something.
So someone had the idea to add sex. Sure. They added it. But some asked, what if... a player chose that option and the other person... refused? The devs were persuaded to follow their sort of ethos about allowing any real thing into the game. So they added rape next. Handled by d20 rolls I assume.
Well, pretty soon 90% of the player base was role playing rapists. All their little profiles were about why they became rapists and why they rape people. That's all the game was anymore, just rapists running around, constantly stopping people so that the text would pop up and describe them committing rape. Every time you'd go to a town to buy arrows or whatever, you'd wait around getting raped
The sheer uniqueness of the feature drew that sort of person to the game, and drove most of the other people out.
Reminds me of HellMOO, though that was post apocalyptic and made in the early 2000s by a bunch of Something Awful and 4chan users to be as edgy as they possibly could be. Otherwise it was a MUD/MUSH like what you describe. Actually there was one big difference: actually engaging with the sexual mechanics was considered creepy and cringe by the community in general instead of being celebrated.
Turns out most peeps that engage in multiplayer games don't do it to encounter SA, huh I'm shocked

Something tells me this guy would be upset if they also added the historically accurate features of hazard pay, voting, paying prostitutes and respecting their consent, having black ex-slaves as equal members, and getting killed by your underlings if you keep the loot to yourself or get too many people killed.
Not to mention most pirates were able to elect and then also remove their captains if they weren't getting paid well from raiding
You have to imagine the person who is still into Star Citizen is just the worst person imaginable
They got like half a billion dollars, or a billion dollars, in funding. The people who are invested in this game enough to use the forums are likely sex cultist pedophiles in Silicon Valley or “cultural critics” or “philosophers” who post about how scary it would be if Siri came to life and went on a murder rampage
This guy talking about "historically accurate" and all I can think of is one of if not best games at least critically acclaimed games ever made Sid Meyer's Pirates. Not even 10 years apart(SC initial dev launch).
This is the sort of take not even Roberts or whatever the fuck his name is would be willing to follow imo, like goodbye your game ever getting anywhere close to the mainstream, and that is considering it is already a joke within "gamers" circles.
There's a writer called John C Wright and you can read the narrowing of the Basinga's hope for the future from libertarian hyper optimism and pretensions to godhood, to vaguely tradcath "we're all part of a Noosphere communion of all humanity but everyone is somehow still in capitalist patriarchy 200,000 years from now" to "The future will be exactly like today but with bigger guns."
It's just so shocking how they went from "Jupiter Brains! Entirely new non-neurotypical ways of mind! Complete and total gender and Morphological freedom! Spend a year as a Tree for tax reasons! To "I only suck the blood of the young from women because to do it from the same gender is woke actually"
