I play Genshin Impact and it's a lot of bang for your non-buck in terms of content. You can enjoy the full experience without spending so much as a penny and not even get FOMO. There are multiple events where you can unlock gatcha-only characters for free, in fact I think there's one on right now. Otherwise if you're into rhythm games I play Bang Dream and Idolmaster Starlight Stage. Bang Dream has an English version and it's cutesy and inoffensive. Im@s is japanese only but doesn't require knowledge for the core game loop.
Do you have any tips for Genshin Impact? I just hit adventure rank 23 and I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing.
The game slows down a bit at around 25 if you are an every day type of player. You will definitely feel the lack of resin soon enough. Other than that, you aren't competing with anyone so enjoy your team but have a gameplan at the same time and don't spread yourself thin.
Yeah sure, how far along the main quest are you? Have you explored the map in full? For the most part the fun is finding chests and secrets and stuff. After that it's just a case of doing weekly events and waiting for content updates.
Otherwise it's a case of doing the domains and bosses to get crafting materials to upgrade your characters and equipment. Honestly if you're not interested in the raw DPS checks that are these elements of the domains etc, don't even bother. Just wait for the devs to release new events and play those. Check in every so often for updates and play the new quests. If you want the full experince then you just need to focus on your characters, their best weapons and their best elemental interactions. And this will take a lot of materials acquisition.
I just got to Stormterror's Lair and I've basically only taken a couple of steps into Liyue, looks like there's a shitload of map left. Have explored most of Mondstadt, the only things I'm missing are a couple of domains that don't unlock until higher AR.
Mostly I just kinda suck at the combat. I'm trying to do the secret island Time And Wind quest but the level 40 Eye of the Storm at the end is a massive damage sponge. It's a battle of attrition even with elemental reactions and I don't come out on top. My artifacts are suboptimal and many of them aren't powered up at all, which doesn't help.
I have Amber, Kaeya, Lisa, and the traveller powered up to 40 with okish gear, mostly 3- and 4-star weapons that are somewhere between level 20 and 40. I also have Noelle, Ningguang, Xiao, Diona, Beidou, and Bennett that I obtained through wishes but none of them are powered up at all. I have a 5-star bow that I'm not using either, Skyward Harp? I've powered it up to level 30, but I've got Amber using a lv. 40 The Stringless because of its elemental damage boost. Not sure if I should swap those.
Xiao is one of the most OP characters in the game, so start dumping xp books and resources into him ASAP. Bennet is probably the most versatile healer/backup DPS, and Beidou is a good all-around hitter. Diona will make a good ranged replacement. Honestly, you've got a potentially strong lineup, but it will set you back a little rebuilding your other characters. https://genshin.gg/ is a good guide if you want some simple duilds for your various characters in terms of items and such.
The only spear I have for Xiao is the Black Tassel, which boosts damage vs. slimes, which is why I hadn't bothered powering him up yet. Thanks for the recommendations!
edit: also what's the best thing to use my primogems on? I've basically been saving them just for Fates but I don't know if there's a better thing to use them on
Primos should only be used to buy rolls on gatcha. There's a shop that you can use to exchange them for crafting materials, but I wouldn't bother
Genshin not having controller support yet on Andoird is driving me nuts because I know id sink so much time into it.
Damn, that's actually nuts. I'm playing on PC so I can't comment but that is maddening to think about. No chance of forcing it or finding a workaround?
Been playing genshin impact. Been a lot of fun but also work. Daily missions will give you 60 primogems. You need 160 to make a wish. You are guaranteed something at 10 wishes. High ranked characters you get every 50 wishes.
You also get primogems by opening chests in the over world occasionally.
You also have resin you use to get rewards like gear for characters at end of dungeons' and bosses. The resin regenerates 1 point every 8 minutes so going from 0 to 160 takes 16hrs. You play your daily missions, spend your resin gathering good equipment, farm for some stuff and then log out.
Been playing for a while with nephew and we have yet to spend anything. I'm mostly playing for the hot characters tbh and if you look at the characters you'll be bound to find some to your liking.

Fire Emblem Heroes is fun. The only downside is that you'll very quickly get bored of the watered down version of Fire Emblem that's in that game and abandon it to play the real thing.
I've also played Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, but it's not worth the hassle of making a hong kong steam account to play. They started from a complete console game and stripped out 95% of the content in order to gachaify it, and the resulting product is pretty anemic, though the graphics are great. aaaaaaand those are the only two gachas I've tried.
I liked Girls Frontline (the girls are guns) except for the part where you're limited by ammo. This isn't actually a big deal unless you play for 12 hours a day, since you replenish fast enough, but the principle of the thing bothered me.
There's also Azur Lane where every shipgirl (except the lolicons) has ridiculously gigantic cans and you're also limited by oil, albeit you can make very low-cost fleets (compared to GFL, where each unit takes the same amount o ammo). I prefer the GFL designs, but if you're playing on an emulator, there's Azur Lane bots out there to play the game for you. Damn, gacha games kinda suck, why the fuck did I waste my time with them?
Meanwhile I'm maxed out on all the resources to the point where I have to do heavy production every day just to not hit the 300k cap. I think GFL once you get past the early game is one of the most F2P friendly gachas. Just unlock 4 extra echelons and put them to work doing logistics 24/7. Also I think the ammo usage actually varies based on type of gun, going from MG > RF > AR > SMG > HG (not sure where SG fits).
Arknights for a fun tower-defense game with banging music and cool, non-lewd character designs. You can clear most of the content with low rarity units, it's pretty hard (much more satisfying if you can do it tho) but there are always video guides if you're stuck. It's PVE game so there isn't much reason to rush or grind, you can just play at your own pace.
I like FGO, not sure how a Fate beginner would feel about it, thought.
FFBE was fun for a summer a few years back. The gacha value was so shit that I never spent a dime on it. Had good sprite work and the perfect bright lights and flashing colors for dopamine.
If you really wanna gamble, Pokemon Go's great because you do have to gamble for the shinies but to do so takes enough time that you generally can get a good bang for your buck. Though they do obscure and hide odds which is horseshit.
Dokkan Battle is pretty fun if you're into dbz. The 6th anniversary comes up in a few months and usually is when they really give out good shit.
I like Final Fantasy Recorder Keeper a lot, mostly because it forces players to make their own strategy to complete high level content. There's very few cases where you're able to just follow a guide to clear high level content because the character relics (things you pull on the gacha for) will vary so much between player accounts.
Mythril, the "free" premium currency, is pretty easy to come by. To the point where it's absolute insanity to pay for a pull in favor of just saving up mythril. For reference, a single x11 pull costs THIRTY DOLLARS normally. But to date, I have spent a total of like $5 on the game and am still clearing new endgame content with it.
