Turns out when you do austerity, create a Muslim registry, and generally flirt with the far right, everyone hates you and the fascists still vote for Coca-Cola instead of your off brand Coke.

This is the third poll in a row showing a competitive race. In 17 it wasn’t even close. #GirlPower

next time you should elect a nice working class baguette instead of a bourgeois almond based pastry like Macaron

Well Macron Obama’s for the past four years, turned the racism dial up, promised to have a cabinet that was made up of left wingers and right wingers in the name of unity, sacked all the cool left wingers almost immediately, and now Le Pen is gonna win

Just completely ordinary Euro stuff. Fascism is one of those quirky traditions we have, like the British house of lords or the thing with the bulls in Spain.

It's happening all across Europe. I think France is just a tad ahead.

A vote for Macron in 2017 was a vote for Le Pen in 2017 with the shit he's pulling so far lmao

I mean the issue with Le Pen is there really is no telling if her foreign policy will be better, worse, or the same, and if she wins it’ll boost the far right elsewhere

I mean, part of the problem is that - from a material perspective - it's not clear whether Macron's neoliberal blue-lives-matter shit is actually any worse than a bunch of fascist blow-hards taking power for a minute.

"What happens if people start saying the quiet parts out loud?" is a purely liberal concern. I don't really care if it's Rahm Emanuel or David Duke running the Chicago PD when they're going to be a bunch of racist chuds either way. The institution is already broken and the winner is practically incidental to the policies.

I mean true but it is very important for you to remember, Macron may suck, but it still can (and probably will) get much much worse. It’s very important to keep some perspective on these things. Most modern harm reduction is bullshit imo, but just because someone is a diet fascist doesn’t mean the fascists aren’t going to do much worse things than them. Again Macron is bad and is doing bad things, but there is still a lot of room for things to be worse.

            I don't doubt it.

I think it's just going to suck to be French for the next decade, at least. But I also don't think Le Pen has the market cornered on fascism. Just like folks living along the US border are eating shit under Biden just like under Trump and the deficit hawks are swarming after four years of Deficits Don't Matter, the threat of a Le Pen government looses its teeth if I've got Macron's cops biting into my arm and his bureaucrats digging into my pocket book already.

Again Macron is bad and is doing bad things, but there is still a lot of room for things to be worse.

France getting worse doesn't appear to hinge on who wins. It seems to hinge on how much bullshit the French public is willing to swallow before spitting it back up again.

Tbh this is tangential but I don’t think anyone really gives a fuck about the deficit hawks right now, nor will they for a while.

This is kinda contradictory to what I’m saying elsewhere visa via “it can still get much worse”, but my commie Portuguese friend has pretty much said Fortress Europe is already there and the only thing standing in between Europe and the mass slaughter of climate refugees is time. That’s just his opinion though. What would he know? His family came from Angola so it’s not like he knows anything about European Migrants.
