After a long day, I like coming home and playing video games while listening to funny leftist podcasts that don’t really take themselves too seriously. So basically the opposite of revleft radio, citations needed, cushvlogs, etc, as these are usually pretty serious and dense (with info) and require me to devote brain power.
I don’t really know that many podcasts so the only ones that I can really think of that go with what I’m talking about are like pod damn america and (sometimes) true anon. I think CTH and cumtown would also work but I’ve never really given them a chance because I’m not interested in listening to libs.
CTH is like 90% chill, there's a reason it became the ad-hoc rallying point for the online left so you should give it a shot if you haven't already. I would suggest checking out any one of their best episodes (the Noid episode, any episode where they read Rod Dreher, the Sorkin reviews and the episode on conservative political cartoons jump to mind).
Aside from that the only other podcast I've stuck with for a long time is :wtyp: . Their are a few episodes where they go full CIA brainworms about AES states that I don't like, but usually it's just a very slow recounting of some kind of engineering failure with a bunch of dry riffs from the hosts sprinkled in. They'll also make you really appreciate OSHA and wish it had the power to summarily execute repeat offenders.
The CTH episode about fucking Mitt Romney’s mormon bussy on the metaverse is an instant classic
there’s a reason it became the ad-hoc rallying point for the online left
That’s a good point, I’ll try to find the episodes you mentioned
Alice did say they felt the Adam Something episode was a bit cringe on the latest one (to Liam's loud boos and no doubt Liam's commie dad dunking on him again)
CTH is kinda like SNL: I can’t tell if they’ve fallen off or if it’s always been this bad. Matt seems less talkative and enthusiastic than he used to be, and Will insists on reading the dumbest, most boring articles he can find.
My list of "I would like to laugh at the horror instead of cry right now" left podcasts are: beep beep lettuce, trashfuture (not always), trillbillies, boonta vista, bigsofttitty.png, masters of our domain, and, of course, your kickstarter sucks.
This is the list. You want recent Boona Vista though, after they gave up all pretense of politics and just talk about fish dicks and the Dutch
Tom and Demi speaking at length about how crabs would rob a bank is EXACTLY the kind of thing I throw on to unwind. This is not sarcasm.
Trillbilly’s is great. Chill, Kentucky Leftists. It comes out Thursday’s so I just listen out back during the summer and have a beer or two and it’s perfect
Trillbillies Workers' Party is good. Definitely don't take themselves too serious.
Looks interesting, should I start from the beginning or is it better to watch the more recent ones?
I'd recommend listening to the more recent ones to see if you like it, the first 50ish episodes have some rough audio so maybe only go back for those if you absolutely love the show
it's great and what the other person said about jump in at like episode 50 except don't miss episode 8 (fishy flip)
Episodes 50-80 are fucking golden. Things kinda lulled a bit from 130 to 180 or so, but Episode 200 is fucking platinum, and everything after that has been pretty good.
Beep Beep Lettuce, Minion Death Cult, Pod Damn America, and ALAB series. (all the recs in this thread are pretty good)
Havent listened to MDC in a while, how has their content been recently?
Trashfuture is one of my favorite, consistently funny left pods. Focuses more on Br*tish politics, but it will delve into international politics as whole as well. More specifically it focuses on lampooning techbros, bullshit startups, and other insane products of late-stage capital, distancing itself somewhat from the boring rigors of party politics and the evil they get up to on the world stage.
I mean I'll take your word for it but yeah I just perused some of their episode descriptions and I really don't know (or care lol) that much about UK politics so not sure how that'll affect my enjoyability. Definitely will give them a shot though
British politics is infinitely more deranged in its own twisted way than, say, US politics. The fact that it also won't directly affect you lends itself well towards enjoyment as you are removed from its detrimental effects so you can point and laugh at it guilt-free.
Others have mentioned it, but Trillbilly’s Worker's Party is probably exactly what you're looking for
What you can't just absorb three and a half hours on Spinoza and Deleuze casually in the background? Man I've been loving Revleft lately, and especially the dialectics deep dive stuff, but I have to pace the floor and really focus to keep up with them.
Honestly I think Chapo is a good fit. Sometimes they're very funny. The one recently where they talk about the metaverse and just goof around for the whole episode is great.
Oh, the Antifada livestreams are a pretty good casual listen, some great rants, sometimes funny. You do have to deal with the usual twitch stuff like interacting with chat and calling out subs from time to time though.
Street Fight seems like the logical answer here. It's where Chapo got it's start. It's almost too chill for me, I don't check in so often nowadays.
But yeah it's a leftist call-in show but it's about work, people call about their fucked up bosses and union drives and shit.
The weakness is sometimes people call in and don't talk about anything work related, and the conversation might just go on for half an hour, but that's only a weakness to me because I'm in it for the work discussion - if you want something chill this is probably your best bet.
"Hey Brett, how've you been?"
"Hey Bryan. My arm's been acting up again."
"Oh yeah?" *Proceed to discuss arm pain for ten minutes*
Honestly they need a producer to chop their 3 hours down to like 1 tight hour with maybe one short bit before the best callers.
Beep Beep Lettuce, Boomer Death Squad, Minion Death Cult
That show is good but Dave Anthony is not chill lol. It's good but it gets my blood boiling.
Qanon Anonymous might not be exactly what you’re looking for but it’s a great turn your brain off and have some fun podcast.
might not be exactly what you’re looking for
I’m guessing because the hosts aren’t leftists? Or is there a different reason
They are, it’s just that by nature of the subject matter the show is more anti-far right than pro-left if that makes sense.
It’s a wonderfully entertaining podcast, like I’m about to go watch the new episode after a nice drink. But it’s more about mocking and chronicling the far right that anything else.
QAA is not lib shit by any means don’t worry.
Havent seen The Dollop posted here so I'll put it forward. Tends to be very dense and good if you want a lot of information on the topics, but it doesn't also really matter for enjoying the pod to know the specifics of things, especially for the less serious episodes like 10 cent beer night.
The car race episode with Adomian is one of the best things ever.
