and even a cursory reading of State and Rev will confirm that "breaking down the power system" is exactly what lenin calls for. it is explicitly states that the bourgeois state machine cannot be repurposed towards a socialist goal, and needs to be dismantled and a new worker's state built in its place. through this process the most successful revolution in history to date was accomplished, suppressed only by a 70 year siege by global capital and two attempts to directly militarily destroy the soviet project (the second of which aimed to literally annihilate the population and industrial economy of eastern europe wholesale).

Literally both need to happen lol. You should both remove people who are capable of organizing reactionary counter revolutionaries by dint of being members of the previous order and promising to return to it and also completely break that system so another reactionary can’t pick up where they left off.
It means they believe that social structures have some material reality beyond the people who make them up. They are suffering from the same brain bug that makes sovereign citizens think that if they know the right spells then the force of law will bend the world to their whim.
