I knew r/HistoryMemes was bad, but I feel that recently it's gone particularly fashy.
Been that way for a few months. Huge increase in anti-communist and orientalist shit.
Reddit has taken an huge swing right-ward the last few months. More so than normal
I'd like to say that the Right Wing propaganda machine is out in force since Floyd's Murder, but I fear it's just that America's sliding even further into fascism.
Having the Chapo sub banned must have hurt too. Destroyed a centralised space for counter-narratives, and put a chilling effect on every other left sub.
We’ve got a solid 5k left untapped in the discord. I reckon pull them in with pings to really get content flowing.
We should also start emailing users highlights, with an ‘opt out’ button. Annoying af, but it does boost engagement.
I'm afraid that's what's happening too. This is why I think intersectionalism and avoiding class reductionism is so important. Reddit skews overwhelmingly white and young. It seems like the BLM protests are really activating young white peoples' anxiety over white supremacy declining. Even if they don't consciously realize it, deep down they know privileges they feel entitled too because their parents and grandparents had them won't be there for them in the future. Instead of embracing an equal and just future a lot of them are turning fash.
I just found an email I received from a professor a week ago about an incomplete grade from last semester - we had agreed on a July deadline back in May, and that date came and went without any progress on my missing work, so I thought I failed. Apparently he got the deadline extended til the end of this fall??
I don’t know whether to cry from gratitude, hope, anxiety, dread, or all of them at once.
Congrats, but I know that dread feeling, get to fucking work, you don’t need that shit hanging over your head all fall.
The wreckers have been repulsed. The great posting wave shall not be abated.
Horses require utterly stupid logistics chains. Two units of a dozen light horse cost as much as a recon helicopter in running costs.
They are useful but unless you're living off the land the needed agricultural surplus is arguably better spent in biofuels.
Shopping carts make great field gun carriages for your bike brigades.
There's a scene in Mad Men where Betty Draper reveals that she has an Anthropology degree by being really racist, and it's pretty on point.
1950s Undergrad Anthropology was not quite the modern kind (though even then there was a decently based leftist current like LeGuin's parents.)
Had sex with my gf for the first time in months. Damn anti-depressants literally have killed any libido.
Just did some lowkey praxis and wrote a prisoner as part of a letter writing campaign with an abolitionist group. It was easy and fun, and made me stop looking at the horror machine that is 2020 for a few hours. Shout out to the comrade who recommended that the other day o7
Critical Resistance! They include a little pamphlet with resources for the prisoner to include in their suggestions on what to write, so it's kinda based.
Use the motor to drive a rope and pulley to make your bed really lofted. High in the sky where the monsters can't reach.
folks, I gotta head back to school this week, and it's almost definitely gonna be a clusterfuck😩
Tomorrow is my last chance to drop out- I think I'm going to and just self-educate
Similar position here, it feels so grim hoping you're not the one that fucking dies and gets the university to go online
There's not any possible advice we can offer you, but i hope you stay safe comrade. Solidarity.
