Never coming out. He has too many other irons in the fire that will be money makers. I firmly believe he's not in it for the "art" anymore, if he ever was.

Dude has a couple of tv shows coming out and there's more money in sitting on your ass rehashing stuff you've already written.

TWOW yes, ADOS a shuddering "m-maybe?"

GRRMs recent blog posts and interviews indicate he's over the hump with winds

the man can write at lightning speed when he has a clear path in mind (as evidenced by the lore books released after ADWD)

I don't think the great bearded glacier has another book in him imo unless he's already got it largely outlined. He's in his mid 70s and I'm assuming his cholesterol is through the roof.

Hopefully he leaves enough outlines and notes that people can kind of suss out what was supposed to happen. I just wanna know what's up with Azor Ahai... just confirm to me if the prince who was promised is John Snow and I'll be happy.

As Jerma said, it's going to be released, and then near the beginning there will be a chapter named "Meteor: I" describing how a giant space rock is hurtling towards the planet. The book ends at the point where Martin gave up, with the final chapter "Meteor: IV" describing how everyone is blown up by the meteor and life is over, the end.

You still care? After watching that last season, I have no interest in reading any more of these books.

Yeah, but do you expect GRRM to change things significantly? I can think of the whole mission Davos was sent on to that universe's version of the Burmuda Triangle or whatever, but that's the only thing I can imagine being something significantly different.

the show pretty much ignored almost everything introduced in AFFC/ADWD and cut and rearranged the rest to fit their shock value doctrine

the books already have changed significantly, and they did so before a show was made

He's been pretty clear that the show did not closely flow the outline he gave them and that his plans have changed even more since then.

There are so many more pieces in play in the books than there are in the show. I honestly could see the ending being significantly different, especially if Martin remembers better than the showrunners did that Tyrion is capable of being a villain

There were plot lines in the book that were not addresses in the show. It'll probably be better. Even just not rushing things would be good

It'll be released at some point, but George may not be alive when it does.

Someone would definitely do it anyway, right? Just for the sake of completing the story I mean, not to sell books and merchandise.

I imagine if it ever becomes totally and indisputably clear that GRRM is never finishing the books, then several people will take it upon themselves to do it. Who knows, maybe one or more of these fan continuations might actually be good.

There was a fan rewrite of the last seasons of the show that was basically crowdsourced like this. It's a curiosity but without legitimacy it'll just be a pretender to the canon.

Apparently RJ took a similar stance, but repented before his death, and let his wife-editor pick his replacement. (Sanderson)

Probably the right choice. I would like a rough outline at least. Hell, even just bullet points of major events and outcomes.

I've given up. If it drops, hey new stuff to read. If it doesn't... oh well.

I’m assuming he won’t, but if he somehow does finish off the series, then it’s a bonus. Can’t be disappointed if you just expect the guy to die.

I finished the books in like 2013 back when I was in high school. I have long given up.
