CW the racist/transphobic parts

The suit also cites documentation saying “a ‘negro’ race is de-scribed as a ‘Subrace’ in the game and as having ‘average’ intelligence with a maximum intelli-gence rating of 9, while the ‘norse’ race has a minimum intelligence rating of 13.”

“The game also refers to the Black Lives Matter movement as ‘radical’”, it continues, while adding “Star Frontiers New Genesis also contains offensive transphobic material: it includes a specific gender option for the characters ‘Male/Female no bonuses, and no Trans’”.

Gotta love how both the Gygax sons have taken to making TTRPG's to mooch off their father's fame

Luke Gygax seems like he might be okay as far as I know, but Ernie is absolutely a piece of shit like his dad

I'd played DnD in high school and started playing it again and recently learned about the Gary Gygax. I've even seen some people say Ernie is worse than Gary.

Yeah, Gary Gygax at least had the deceny to die before he could start a grift about "The Real D&D"

I'm not the most familiar with WotCs bullshit but it seems like it was very much a good thing TSR went under and they got DnD.

Funny enough, 4E was the first DnD game I ever played despite only doing like one session, then a friend ran the 5E starter set and I've done 5E since then.

As for D&D one, I haven't seen anything like that, but then again, I am a dumbass so I probably missed it. My group said we would probably either stick to 5E or just try Pathfinder if D&D one is super bad.

They say dnd one is meant to be backwards capital with all 5e content but some people speculate theyre just saying that bc they don’t want to effect sales leading up to the drop and I’m inclined to believe that given wotc general behavior lol

It's probably better but honestly there isn't much in it. WotC actually managed to make some things more bigoted when they took over. I generally find the 2E Forgotten Realms stuff more palatable than the stuff that came after, mostly because Ed Greenwood had more input and he is a complete fucking weirdo who also happens to be progressive.

As I said, I'm not the most familiar with WotC's bs, but they seem to have gotten enough backlash finally that they actually have to try and change things, so maybe thats why I made the assumption about WotC.

It's like that joke that you sometimes see on ttrpg forums about house rules "The fun police/WotC ninjas aren't going to come to your house and get you if you use some homebrew/change a rule" but they're like "No, no the fun police are REAL and they're bigots and we WILL call them."

I wouldn't even pirate this game to print it out and piss on it, tho. If I want to do some edgelord adventurism, I'll just run MÖRK BORG or Shadowrun. At least then I'd be able to find a player base.

This is making me want to create an TTRPG system where minorities get pluses to intelligence and a patience stat while white people get negatives to it and a bonus to a 'genocide' stat, and then market the game as being a parallel to the real world and celebrating people's differences.

meanwhile pf2e has lgbt iconics of every flavor and ethnicity and also has a union, far surpassing anything wizards does

lmao why do you people insist on playing 5e? pathfinder 2e is strictly superior in every moral way while still being dnd-like

In fairness, they'd been doing Kobold Adventures in 1e for years. Some of the most fun adventures of the setting came out of their Kobold line.

I'm really looking forward to running a pf2e game, everything I've read looking through the books has gotten me excited to both play and GM it, lots of build options on the player side, interesting creature design with unique abilities, encounter building rules that actually work, guidance on how to use skill checks rather than just a vague "you figure it out", and support for the full level range instead of effectively starting at level 3 and ending at level 11. The learning curve from 5e to pf2e doesn't even seem to be a fraction of how steep people make it out to be.

To be fair, this racist stuff is coming from "nuTSR", an attempt to recreate TSR that was bought by WOTC when it was about to go bankrupt in the 90s. Justin LaNasa and Ernie Gygax Jr. (son of that Gygax) seem to be explicitly targeting the Gamers who feel alienated by D&D and Pathfinder being "too woke", and this is the result.

The further I go down this rabbit hole, the sadder the story gets. The whole family was destroyed as Gary's kids and former business partners scrambled for whatever they could scavenge from his legacy, his widow Gail has become justifiably paranoid and isolated because it's impossible to tell real threats from imagined ones, there have been two attempts to revive the TSR name (without WOTC who owns the name's permission) the first of which survives under a different name and the second which is currently run by a fucking neo-Nazi who is actively grifting alt right gamers.

The game also refers to the Black Lives Matter movement as ‘radical’

Floating through the inky blackness of the void at super-luminal speeds with a crew of intergalactic misfits intent on risking our lives in pursuit of a fractional stake on a remotely mined asteroid skirting the edge of a black hole and all I can think is "Man, the geopolitics of the early 21st century was really too woke for my tastes."
