      Seems like every pro chess event I watch is sponsored by crypto. My buddy has sling tv and it has a strange amount of pro chess, but during every ad break you get someone talking about crypto. More than once either the host or one of the players gave a lecture about crypto that took up the entire ad block.

    It kind of makes sense. The computer prevents you from moving pieces you shouldn't and prevents illegal moves. The computer switches the timer as soon as you move. The computer allows you to draw visual arrows on the board. The computer allows you to "premove", enter your next planned move before your opponent moves. You can't mistakenly tip over chess pieces. You never risk bumping arms with your opponent. Playing on the computer is just overall more enjoyable, especially for bullet chess.

    This is also a different game from the game where Hans was accused of cheating.

      I mean Arena is a different game from paper Magic, and people who have decks built in Arena might not be interested in paying again for those same decks IRL. It is weird that they would ban full control bluffing, even though the game tells you you can do it in the loading screen hints and it's not like the automatic timer is too forgiving of slow play.

        I think it's actually nice thinking about chess as a sport, because it makes it feel less significant that chess is essentially solved. Sort of like how it doesn't matter that a car can move faster than a person--trying to run as fast as a human can is still interesting/worthwhile.

    just googled this cup, the homepage of the website for it is plastered in spoilers. I conclude based on this that it's run by people who don't know the finer points of running a tournament and they probably made them play over the internet because that was the only recording setup they knew how to put together.
