I think there's a real tangible divide in the US. But the notion that we were building towards anything resembling a state, much less a socialist one, is woefully naive. At best, we're gearing up to fracture and disintegrate into a thousand little CHAZs. At worst, we're finally going to internalize all the shit we've read about Evil Communism in order to reenact Animal Farm across the midwest.
But there's still no solidarity. There's still no real mutualism to speak of. All we've got is a stumbling coalition of bureaucracies that are coming apart at the seams and a hyper-violent police force trying to bludgeon the holes in the dam back closed again.
