I can’t wait in 200 years when a civilization of corvus sapien dig up this shit and think that the homo sapien worshipped that vinyl religious totem that bears the name of zelensky

They will be even more vague and impossible to distinguish when dug up if anyone's left to dig them up :doomer:

The stock price cratered last November when Funko slashed its financial outlook for the year, and fell by another 25 percent this week as the company revealed it would also lay off 10 percent of its employees.

If Funko Pops finally lose relevance, another collectible fad will take it's place. Like Beanie Babies and others before them.

Maybe the next one will be less industrially wasteful, right? :padme:

They can just make a collectable jpeg of 20mb in size. with today hard disk storage, you can literally collect them in masse and it would be probably less wasteful

I love all the infrastructure and labour that went into pumping oil out of the ground, transporting it to be refined, shipping those materials to a factory, forming them into shitty plastic figures, packaging those up, shipping them yet again across an ocean, only to be buried because there's no profit in selling the fucking things.

Clearly there's no way to use all those resources to better humanity, people need their twelfth detective Pikachu Funko pop that won't even be taken out of the packaging.

This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.

What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.

Meanwhile I'm just enjoying the Gundam I put together. Doesn't look creepy, and I feel accomplished that I put it together.

I sit here with my collected anime posters, which came from small artists at conventions and actually look like the characters from the shows.

Because they're shit an boring and there's literally nothing interesting about them from one to the next.

If I buy a figurine I want the character I'm buying, but when you buy a funkopop you're buying a funko with the theme of a character.

This is why Nendoroids will be around forever, they get the balance between being cheap and letting it just be a character instead of their brand. You're buying the character not the nendo brand.

More importantly, they dont make a billion of them at once because they’re scaled for a smaller collectors and enthusiasts market.

I mean, they probably COULD make a billion at once but don't have retailer adoption because they're not cheap enough as far as the supermarkets are concerned. They don't think adults would buy a toy worth more than £10. They are very very wrong though.

The Japanese market are super behind on what the scale of the market for merch is outside of their domestic sales. It's a little odd how difficult it is to get them to commit to anything at scale.

my impression is they kinda dont really care much for foreign markets, being how big their economy got until the 90s maybe they're like that for a reason

Ppl only like funko pops bc they make them of literally Everything bc they are easy to make as a lump of unposable vinyl thats basically all the same sculpt So sometimes the only existing merch of whatever character the hypothetical fanboy likes is a funko pop bc they only make nendos of anime and hyper popular stuff bc obviously they take more effort to produce so GSC cant be bothered to do a figurine of Blorbo Beebus from the short lived cult classic The Plinkos that like 10 ppl in the world would shell out for, but funko can
