It's in several spots, people basically saying "I've had a solid time except for all these nasty russian bots that we will soon outnumber!"

No way an American disagrees with you, or anyone else of an Approved Nationality! No, it must be a pesky ruskie who managed to reach a computer despite not having any paved roads!

I’m not here to judge anyone’s opinions but to clearly state the facts. And the fact is: at least one of the admins of the largest lemmy server considers anti-CCP/Russia sentiment/argument to be harmful and worthy of a ban. That is their decision.

Are we going to have to put up with insufferable nerds like this or can we still :PIGPOOPBALLS: at them until they submit to our wisdom and erudition?

On a slightly more serious note; Does anyone on Lemmy actually want us, or understand what they're going to get when we join up?

I think we can be quite derisive as long as we are careful about precisely how we do it.

Well lemmygrad banned me for calling an insufferable atheist an insufferable atheist so the rules might require being more nice to dillweeds than I'm capable of.

I went and found that forum because one of their lost liberals was here trying to be noticed and it's like reddit gamer essence distilled down to the purest form

At this point, if someone has "@beehaw.org" after their username, I expect their comment to be total lib garbage, to the point that I'm genuinely surprised when it isn't (very rare).

we would get to bully libs like in the reddit days, plus we get to banned them if they act out of line here. i see it as a win-win honestly

fighting libs online is really annoying and pointless though. They don't argue in good faith, nor do they change their minds. Plus there are more of them than us, frankly. It'll just make everything worse.

sure but do people change their minds through arguing online or through experience?

                :this:

This is how my mind was changed, by watching arguments in the comments with good sources backing them up.

Yeah definitely. When this site first started up, some two years after I joined the sub and started moving left, I still hadn't yet fully let go of belief in US propaganda about Uighurs in China. But I lurked in the arguments on the subject here, and eventually I came around. (I'm still fuzzy on the details of the DPRK, but at this point I don't believe anything the Western media says about foreign adversaries, so I've come around there too.) And as a result, I'm proud to say that my Ukraine takes would get me labeled a "Russian shill" by these shitlibs.

This. you're not arguing for the benefit of the person you're "Debating". You're trying to make them look like an idiot in front of the audience, so that the audience will be embarassed to be associated with them and will instead decide that you are much cooler and better looking and as such your politics must be superior.

In 2019 I was considering :vote:-ing for Elizabeth Warren. When I got here I believed just about everything the imperialist media said was real. This place moved me left, as did r/chapotraphouse. We can do it again, and there's no ban coming for us on Lemmy.

The rest of your statement is true but our sheer posting power is not to be scoffed at. We were targeted on Reddit partly because we were overwhelmingly one of the most active subreddits in the whole shit heap. And people are saying that we post considerably more than all the rest of Lemmy combined. I think we can take them.

I think that posting just to trigger the libs can be fun as long as it is just a side-project and you don't make it into an ideology or part of your identity. You just need to assume that they aren't stupid and are instead arguing in bad faith. And you aren't really arguing to change their mind, instead you are arguing to change the mind of a random reader.

I saw multiple people get username-mention pinged into a thread to get dunked on only to end up sticking around and becoming progressively more ardent leftists over the years.

The liberals coming from Reddit are simultaneously making the platform much better to use by posting more content and also killing the cultural vibe with these takes that you just know are coming from a place of ignorance.
