For once the video is so bad (that along with a frightening increase in the regularity of such cops executions here) that even the current gov is vaguely trying to suggest publicly the cops were in the wrong. That clip of the EMT, wow. It's kinda cathartic to see someone be so appropriately outraged, someone who knows that we're all supposed to look out for each other and who is in shock and disbelief at such disregard of human life.
I really think this idea that as humans, as people, we're supposed to be a community that looks out for each other, this basic empathy for everyone around you regardless of personal relationships of material interests, is one of the biggest things that capitalism is taking away from us.
We're not supposed to live in a rat race. Capitalism has created an environment where for one to succeed, others must fail, where nobody will ever give you anything for free and everybody is a potential competitor. We're the most social, most collaborative species on the planet, there's a reason solitary confinement is considered literal torture.
And yet, under capitalism, the most sociopathic, most self-serving monsters who are the most willing to fuck over, exploit and abuse others are glorified and mythologized. Only a deeply diseased society could have so many people unironically idolizing Jordan fucking Belfort.
It's my leading theory that this erosion of the collective in favor of hyper-individualism where people are told that nobody is on your side, nobody will ever help you and nobody owes you anything, that this is one of the leading causes for the US mass shooting epidemic.
Because normal people should react like this EMT when people are randomly murdered. This is a normal, natural reaction. This is not supposed to happen. Cops who murder innocents should be screamed at by the community, they shouldn't be able to leave their homes.
