I’m not a black woman so you can feel to tell me I’m completely off base, but sometimes I feel like rhetoric like this is just performatively putting black women on a pedestal of perfection instead of humanizing them. It’s well meaning maybe but looks an awful lot like tokenizing.

wild...when I was at the protests in LA and shit got dangerous protesters yelled at white people to get to the front. Good way to show you're actually a fucking ally and sadly it keeps people safer

I have a lib friend who said only black people should be at BLM marches. I pushed back saying that it should be multi racial and white people can be shields to the vulnerable. We didn't go much further than that. This shit is rampant in lib circles. Like I would like to see mainly black leadership, but this shit is bad.

The biggest threat to the ruling class is poor white people finding out they have more in common with poor black people than they do with rich white people. Because of that, there's a lot of money, power, and time spent to prevent that from ever happening.

Tell them white people should volunteer to be teargas and bullet sponges just to hear the response.

I've actually been worried that BLM has, for lack of a better word, a branding problem. I just got off the phone with both of my Trump-voting parents, and even they think that cops in general are out of control and these ones should have been charged with her murder. I don't want to diminish the fact that black people are statistically much more likely to experience this in America because racism keeps them as an underclass and the police function as an instrument of the class system to keep them there, but we do need to find a way to make it more clear to working class people across the board that this can happen to them, too.

so basically they're saying black people should do all the work while white people just sit back and watch. not a good look.

is anyone kicking non black people out of the march? idk i'm very sympathetic to what this post is trying to say but conflating this with literal segregation just seems like exactly what a chud would say in response to something like this

You're right, I should have been more nuanced and serious in my response, but I also really fuckin' needed to scream and capslock was the best I could do. :\

Maybe you should go over there and tell them how they're supposed to do what they're doing.

This is not a stupidpol type critique. Yes of course, the pigs' victims are primarily poor people and have a massive bias toward non white people. Follow the logic - this makes putting black people in the front much much more susceptible to being harmed. Lib identity politics absolutely need to be criticized.

Do you think the black women pictured are unaware of that? Do you think they need you or anyone else to inform them of that? And to tell them how they should protest?

"woke points" is absolutely stupidpol shit, as is the denial of agency and intelligence of the women pictured that is inherent to these claims.

I'm not telling them how to do anything, I'm just posting online. I disagree with their tactics and I'm voicing my disagreement here, as are many others, which is totally fair game. It sounds like you're insinuating people are being racist for disagreeing with black women, which is super lib shit. Listen to basically any black anti-capitalist and they will warn of liberal identity politics distracting from the real problem (racist capitalism). "Woke points" are ABSOLUTELY being scored by capitalists EVERY DAY and this needs to be called the fuck out. YES that includes black capitalists!

More importantly, every black woman / gender fluid person I know / have met at protests / have seen on twitter emphasize the point that if anything, white people should organize to the front, as like I said, cops are less likely to hurt white people. <-- this is the predominant point I've heard people make and I agree with this much more than the tweet posted above.

Though my own personal opinion (if I'm allowed to have one lol) is that in a protest it doesn't really matter that much, from my experience I've seen pigs beating people pretty indiscriminately.

Do you think the black women pictured are ignorant of what you've said? Do you think that maybe they knowingly chose to put themselves at risk, perhaps for a reason?

The only mention of racism here came from you, btw.

I’m not telling them how to do anything, I’m just posting online. I disagree with their tactics and I’m voicing my disagreement here

This is cowardly hair splitting. You're not telling them how to do anything, you're just posting online that they shouldn't be doing what they are doing.

The subject of this thread is race and idpol so I assumed your mention of idpol was a race and idpol issue? And no, of course I want them to protest. And I commend them for putting themselves at risk. I just agree with OP that it's a shit tactic and tactical discussion is important for a leftist insurrection to succeed.

So let's stop the convo right here and say that you won because this is just painfully insignificant IRL - protesting is good, black people are oppressed, capitalism needs to be abolished.

Fair enough. I see black women willfully leading a protest against police murdering a black woman, my first thought is not to criticize them.

they did the same thing in Denver - black men in front, followed by black women. Didn't we put the white comrades on the edges earlier in the summer, since they're less likely to just get hit?

In Seattle, when white people were at the front/on the outskirts of the march and protecting the space for black speakers to speak, white people got photographed and the marches were delegitimized as a white-led movement. As much as I hate it, optics matters.

        -----dumbass fucking twitter lib

EDIT lmao I'm just laughing at the prospect of these protests being a photo op for bourgeoise newspapers to be FORCED to photograph for everyone to see and be forced to realize that it's a black led movement which will force the public to be not racist anymore
