House Republican leaders told lawmakers to focus on criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris’ record without reference to her race and gender, following caustic remarks from some Republicans attacking her on the basis of identity.

During a closed-door meeting Tuesday morning, chair of the House GOP campaign arm Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) and others issued the warning after a series of comments by their members that focused on Harris’ race as well as claims she is a “DEI” pick, according to two people in the room.

In the 48 hours since President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race, Republican leaders have tried to train their criticism of the presumptive Democratic nominee on her handling of the border and her plan to skip Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before Congress.

But several Republicans immediately took the criticism in a different direction. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said Monday that Harris was a “DEI vice president” and Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) over the weekend questioned if Democrats are sticking by her “because of her ethnic background.” If nominated, Harris would be the first Black and South Asian woman to be a major party nominee.

so nerds how many days until a chud politician calls Kamala the n-word live?

Each of these terms only ever lasts about a year before everyone gets sick of it and they move onto the best one. CRT, antifa, SJW, etc.

They can't focus on that because cops and ”tough punishments for criminals” are some of the things they love the most.

Imagining a major European center-left party nominating a Romani candidate for PM/President and the reactionaries shitting the bed so hard raging about it that they get the Romani equivalent of Keir Starmer elected

It's pretty hard to imagine a level of racism towards Roma that Europeans would consider too much, tbh.

But remember, the facts don't matter that much!

They could recast her as a progressive prosecutor and just generally incompetent. The have all the talking points lined up for the first part from campaigns against Larry Krasner, Chesa Boudin, etc. For the second part, they could just cherry pick a few cases someone in her office messed up (or just had an egregious result, regardless of what her office did) and spam coverage about those (like the old Willie Horton ads).

It'd rile up the chuds and make Harris have to figure out how to present her record to Democrats who have pretty varied opinions on how DAs should act.

Everything that makes her genuinely awful is something that appeals to their base and themselves. Every bad thing she did as AG is fucking awesome to them. This is all they have.

Ironically Kamala is indeed “forced diversity.”. You will never convince me that Dixie Joe knew who she even was and willingly picked her before accidentally promising to choose a black woman as VP. For fuck’s sake she dropped out before it even began.

I think Joe would definitely remember the "that little girl was me" from the debate. His brain may have been melting but anything that hurt his massive ego would stick for sure.

how do you think Joe Biden became president? he won the 2020 nomination solely because of his association with Obama, and he was really only appointed VP because he was a segregationist old white man who could appeal to casually racist white moderates. Biden's polls peaked only around 3-4% in the 2008 primaries, Kamala at least peaked up to 16% in her run

strategically obama would've never picked a woman or another poc for the ticket. so you can reasonably say biden only got where he is for his race and gender

also, harris was probably also pretty calculated, not just a pity pick. having a woc perceived as being progressive while not actually believing in anything was perfect for pulling naive progressive libs. a white male + white male ticket wouldn't have done him any favors and she was assertive while more human-seeming than the other candidates

If anything loses them the election its going to be this. 100% the racist freaks in the GOP are not going to be able to stop themselves from doing endlessly misgynoir, to a point that normal people (who are still racist, but they dont usually like it to be so overt) are going to be offput.

You'd think Republicans would understand there are plenty of class traitors that are also not white or straight and it wouldn't be an issue anymore for them, but then they would have to stop scapegoating and actually have to do something for the people. collusion

Interesting theory, why do Republicans keep having gains politically? You're ignoring the fact that raving dogs seem to be the largest contigent of voting americans.

The Democrats under Biden have proven to be the more genocidal warmongering, pro-cop, anti-immigration, and pro-Zionist party than the Republicans. The Democrats have been eating their lunches and all they have left is “culture war” and “wokeness”.

Are you trying to give the Dems credit for moving to the right on those issues? I hope not because by all measures it was a losing strategy.

Make no mistake Biden is a corpse but he is also a ghoul with a neoliberal admin that absolutely refuses to tackle material issues and spent 4 years gaslighting the population as the country headed into the economic abyss.

Even Biden would not be in this bad shape if the dems actualy tried to secure the liberal/progressive vote by actualy trying to get even bare basic wins on progressive issues.

I don't believe this is a hot take to say Biden would be the favorite if the Dems actualy tried to govern with the actual intent on pushing even remotely left policies and winning.

The reason the GOP can't easily attack Kamala is because remember that traditional conservatism is long dead. The Bush era GOP concerned with budget and shit? They moved away from that because nobody actualy gives a shit about the government deficit or military budget. The 2008 crisis already jokerfied millenials back then with all the government bailouts if you remember. Why care about budget when the elite gets free money whenever they want?

Too big to fail was a fairly important cultural/political point of that era.

Now Trump is a once in a lifetime figure due to his charisma but he also only exaggerated this trend. The GOP doesn't have a political platform except racism since the Bush era, its old news.

If Biden did not have an impairment of mental cognition that seriously affected his re-election prospects, the Republicans would have been toast. The party would not exist in 10 years as a half competent political party, and would more likely devolve into a country club for MAGA crazies yelling at clouds.

This is the future of the Republican Party. They’re done.

Probably true I agree. The problem is the dems don't want this to happen, hence the current climate. The dems are about to lose an election they should win because they must walk the line between deliberately gaslightling liberals and not doing it so much that the GOP actualy dies and the dems end up being blamed for everything and having to actualy govern.

A fundamental part of Dem strategy is blaming Republicans for everything and they can't do that if the GOP dies. Hence there will always be this status quo where Dems only realy lose due to their own incompetence.

I feel like they're going to figure out how to do it as overtly as possible with some amount of plausible deniability. The word "removedrdly" comes to mind from the whole public debacle 20+ years ago.
