Why did it increase that much, this is crazy.
it genuinely seems like the watermarked posts are working cause idk where else all these libs would come from
it's almost 2k right now, lol. it's funny cause I don't think reddit counted it the same way but we were fairly consistently at 3k online on the old sub. the difference is that I think that was registered accounts, not lurkers - whereas here that's a count of everyone browsing the thread.
We're waiting for a certain post, chapo has always been more active when there's a major news event going on in the background
Why did it increase that much
I thought it was a glitch at first, since yesterday it seemed like it was just our normal numbers +1000. But if it was the case that our actual online numbers were how many the site says are online minus 1000, it would seem to be too low at certain times, since even in the middle of the night in the US, the lowest we ever went before was around 600 online. It could also just be that there was some change to how the online number was counted, but you'd have to get an official mod explanation to figure out what's really happening.
I think the most likely explanation is that we finally got stickied megathreads on the day of the VP debate, which increased engagement from the userbase that was already here, and at the same time people have started posting watermarked posts off site, causing an influx of new users from the old subreddit (I think there were about 200 new accounts just created yesterday).
i remember the sub usually having 2k online, but with 15x as many subscribed. it's really crazy how many are online right now
Those watermark posts on reddit seemed to have really driven a boost of traffic as well.
yeah i guess thats it but i definitely did not expect this sort of outreach. a few posts with <1000 upvotes and we have 1000 new lurkers
