I want to draw attention to a few important posts. Things in India are actually heating up and I think that comrades here can really do something to help. Donations are being sought by the farmers for their struggle and there is a real international effort by communist groups to help them make this happen.

First post from /r/europeansocialists

Lal Salam,

As you may have heard by now, the biggest general strike in history took place in India on 26th of November, with a historical record of 250 millions of people taking part in it.

The movement gathered farmers & workers from both the public and the private sectors, and was organized by ten national trade union federation, to fight Modi government's reforms that people consider as anti-labor and anti-farmers. The strike also set-off a movement by farmers against the corporatization of agriculture and they have been encircling Delhi, the capital of India from all sides.

The movement has already spread to different parts of the country and workers and students have also stood in solidarity with the protesting farmers. The Modi government is still refusing to concede to the demands and trying to buy out the leadership but this was of no avail, and it is likely in the coming days this movement might lead to broader class movements all across the country.

We want to advise those who may be interested in following the event to join and keep an eye on r/AsianSocialists, our sister sub, that is covering these event almost daily.

Here is a short example of some post you may find there, mostly made our comrade u/komradsuvo.

4th December Update on Delhi March

All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC)

Press Bulletin | 3pm, December 4, 2020

  • Hundreds of Delhi Citizens, Democratic Organizations Protest at Jantar Mantar in support of Farmers -AIKSCC condemns Police Notices to protesting leaders for violation of Epidemics Act, demands withdrawal -AIKSCC criticises Niti Ayog for advocating Corporate Growth in Agricultural for revival of Indian Economy despite the harmful impact on Farmers -AIKSCC says discussion on MSP meaningless unless Swaminathan formula, All crops and All farmers are included. Reiterates demand of repealing of 3 Farm Acts and EB 2020

Hundreds of students, Womens’ Rights leaders, industrial workers and intellectuals of Delhi rallied today at Jantar Mantar to prtotest against the Govt of India’s callous attitude towards the just demands of the Farmers. They were stopped and heckled by the Delhi police, but they held their ground and continued with their meeting, where leaders expressed their anger firstly the repression and hurdles placed on the march of the Punjab & Haryana farmers, then the failure to address their main concern and now the repression that has begun by giving Police Notices and preventing protests.

Meanwhile the Delhi police has been issuing notices to protesting leaders for protesting under violation of Epidemics Act. This is a foul and repressive misuse of the Act. The Act has not been applied to Bihar elections where the PM himself campaigned, or to the massive gathering during Bhopla Dipawali celebrations or to the Varanasi Deepotsava. It is being used specifically against those who dissent. AIKSCC demands that these notices be withdrawn. It reiterates that it will continue to violate such anti people orders and laws to ensure that democratic protests continue.

AIKSCC Working Group has severely criticized the Niti Ayog VC, Ramesh Kumar for advocating Corporate Growth in Agriculture and these 3 Farm laws, saying that during Covid 19 only agriculture grew at 3.4 % and it can become the basis of economic revival. Agriculture withstood the onslaught of Covid restrictions by the Govt, specifically because it has only limited exposure to Corporate plunder. All Corporate sectors suffered heavily. Corporate penetration in Agriculture will ruin this sector also. It will provide Corporates monopolized growth and high profits, but will harm the farmers, multiply their losses and debts, increase suicides and snatch their land.

Reiterating its demand of repeal of the 3 Farm Acts and EB 2020, the Working Group of AIKSCC has said there is no space absolutely for any discussion on MSP as farmers interest can be safeguarded only when MSP is given at the Swaminathan formula of 1.5 times the cost of all inputs (C2), it is declared for all crops and there is guaranteed environment of purchase of crops from all farmers. Illogical arguments are being raised by so-called Govt ‘experts’ that guarantee of MSP will lead to inflation, even though 1.5 times cost of production can easily be ensured by drastically decreasing cost of inputs, which will secure farming, ensure income to farmers and yet not raise inflation. World over, inputs are cheap and heavily subsidised leading to cheap food grain. Farmers correctly fear that Corporate control will be promoted by these laws will lead to very cheap imports and harm their interests.

AIKSCC has expressed surprise that political forces are changing their stand and after meeting of Amrinder Singh with Amit Shah, after which he has called for mutual settlement in place of repeal of the Acts.

My uncle, who passed away this year, was a lifelong member of the Communist Party of India. He got injured by shrapnel back in the 60s while participating in a rural strike--some capitalists delivered a parcel bomb. I think he'd be proud of what the Indian proletariat are achieving now, under the worst of conditions.

The post 90s-era in India has been pretty depressing for Leftists: the Hindu-nationalist BJP make MAGA's look like brunch liberals. The parliamentary opposition to the BJP has been neutralized. The Naxalites have been putting up a brave fight in the hinterland, against the odds. Economic inequality is mounting, and climate change is already starting to take its toll on India (which is still overwhelmingly agrarian). A resurgent Left in the world's second-largest country could be a game-changer. Please spread the word and donate (USD go a long way there!) if you can.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this might turn revolutionary. All material support that can be provided is a potential benefit. Those that can not provide material support can help by pushing this to comrades everywhere and getting it out there in front of literally as many eyes as possible. Support support support.

If they can turn this into something it would be an incredible victory.

They are currently sitting on all the roads into and out of Delhi, stopping all traffic on all sides from entering or leaving, screaming " Inquilab Zindabad " -- "Long live the revolution."

Slogans arent revolutionary. There dont really exist any material conditions for actual revolutionary activity. At best, they might achieve their immediate aim and drive public support against the current government.

Call me blackpilled, but there's no way this ends peacefully. India is home to a massive amount of nationalists and religious zealots. I hope I'll be wrong, and that for once in the 21st century, the reds come out on top. If they come out on top, I fucking hope it inspires countries like Brazil or France to go into a general strike as well.

Western leftists have more trust in western media than in the actual words our Indian comrades actually say.

The 10 unions that called the initial farmers strike together have 300million members and none of them have shown trouble mobilising their membership in the past. More unions striked in solidarity. More unions are threatening to strike in solidarity because terms have been rejected by the govt.

Can we give video of 250million people on a nationwide scale? Nope. Can we trust the organisers to know how many of their membership turn out and what a reasonable figure is for nationwide turnout? Yes we can. It won't be exact. But it is very reasonable given the domino of things happening there right now.

Thanks. I'm just wondering if there is staying power in this strike. The (unsourced) claims in the thread state that the strike only lasted a day, followed by a lot of "It's only a 'general strike' if it comes from the 'general strike' region of France, otherwise it's just sparkling worker dissent". I don't think that's a helpful thing to say, and I did find it pointlessly dismissive, as if the conditions in India have any bearing on the west or vice-versa.

I agree that the west and the US in particular have next to no power of organizing a general strike without any political or labor leadership calling for one, but to call all leftists inherently delusional as hezbolsonaro claims, and dismissing the strike as ineffective and so forth seems excessively mean-spirited. Doompill poisoning, perhaps?

Nationwide you're right, a one day event. The march on Delhi however encircled the city and continues to block roads. The government asked for more time today, negotiations are coming on the 9th the day after the next Bharat Bandh (general strike). Blockades of Delhi continue.
