Those old command line interactive fiction games, like Zork, would work too.

To add onto this, any old school roguelike like nethack, dungeon crawl stone soup, brogue, etc

      Maybe try cataclysm:dda

Depends on your job, but I'd look into Zachtronics games, especially TIS-100, which is basically just a game where you solve puzzles by writing programs in an assembly-type language.

I used to plan out my circuits and coding for Shenzhen I/O in excel at work and then just email them to myself for when I got home

Of course there would usually be something I forgot that made it completely fail when I tried it in the actual game but it was better than, you know, actually working

      Great game too

Hmmm, I've been wanting to learn assembly for a while, I might have to try this out, thanks!

I love Cultist Simulator too but I've always felt kind of uncomfortable recommending it as the lead dev and owner of the company is a sexual predator who uses their corporate positions and indie game dev clout to extort sexual favors and silence their victims.

If you've gotta play it I'd strong recommend piracy.

Idle games like Trimps can easily be hidden in a browser tab.
