Just wanted to quickly provide an Iraqi perspective. No one is based here and there's no one to support. It's a shia vs shia battle that has been brewing for almost 30 years and has been postponed multiple times. Sadrists are a unique phenomenon in Shia Islam and are to some extent a cult that fully revolves around the Al Sadr family and they're almost worshipped to a worrying degree by their supporters from an Islamic perspective. Anti-Sadrist Shia parties are uncomfortably close to Iran on the other hand and they represent the largest reactionary and conservative elements of society despite their anti-American stance. Both sides are armed to the teeth and we're on the verge of full on civil war at this point. This war is mainly fueled up by the government formation process that drastically failed during the past year. Sadrists allied with Sunnis and Kurds to create the largest bloc, but the other side completely stopped cooperating and let things reach a complete deadend. Muqtada Al Sadr got pissed and decided to instead let his supporters protest in the streets to push through his government. Things finally reached boiling point today after the pro-Sadrist religious establishment broke the final connection to Sadr and basically called him a loser, so his supporters got crazy. The armed forces and pro-Iran militias responded with unnecessary force and look where we are now, life fucking sucks. My relatives in Baghdad are all fine, but it's an extremely tense situation.
I was one of the beta testers of this website and was one of the first users, but ya'll couldn't stop fighting with each other so I left around a year ago and honestly forgot about this website. I remembered today and thought it was a good time to make a comeback.
I'm Iraqi, I have tens of dead relatives who died in the period of 1991 to today due to American hands. My people were subjected to a horrible period of sanctions, invasion and occupation that killed over a million. Entire cities were destroyed, entire families stopped existing and entire lives were wiped away. To this day, we're called terrorists, uncivilized and savages. Seeing all this Ukraine sympathy and outpouring of support from the entire western world made me lose it yesterday and I started uncontrollably sobbing. I don't how to explain the feeling, but I felt like I was an orphan or homeless in a strange way. The world has spat in our faces and completely dehumanized us, and now today it's dancing on our corpses while convincing us that the events in Ukraine aren't miles worse than what they did to us. May God or whatever is up there forever curse these wicked American and European devils.
I'm leaving too comrades. I have been one of the earliest users here and I've genuinely enjoyed using this website, as it has filled a void that was left with the banning of chapo. My perception of what concept of this website is, was always appealing to me because I've always wanted a shitposting space without chuds. If we look back 18 months ago, what was chapo? It was a collection of "look at this dumb lib" posts, John Brown-posting and "click here to sign up and canvass for Bernie". I barely knew any fucking usernames and I didn't care about the personal drama of a dozen power users. The disarray and the lack of direction within the "chapo community" since the summer in a way reflects the destruction of the American "Left" during that period, we're only stuck in a loop of he said this she said that and all substance is lost.
As an Iraqi American, I only feel that it's fitting that this journey ends today, on this dark day in both countries' history. Before I go and delete my account, I just wanted to say that I love the idea of this community, but sadly ideas don't always manifest themselves in the way I wanted them to. I also wanted to say that as a "POC" from a marginalised community, I never felt unsafe or anything of that kind here, and I'm thankful for that. Shitposting under the name Sankara has been also super cool, I was so happy when I nabbed this name. Without doxxing myself, I work in a company that specializes in handling applications and paperwork for Saudi/other rich Arabs who mostly want to study in the US. I got the job after a recommendation from a rich dude after doing this type of work under the table before. I'm also an Arabic speaker so it makes everything easier. Today, I got offered a short-term position in their Riyadh office, which would mean that I would relocate to Saudi Arabia of all places lol. I get paid well now, but taking this opportunity would almost double my pay due to the lack of taxes in Saudi Arabia. I'm really conflicted comrades, the job is good and I've always dreamed of living in the Middle East for even a small period, but it's Saudi fucking Arabia, literally the second most evil place after Israel.

France does not have a problem with Islamic terrorism per se, but it has a problem with crime by frustrated working class people in general. In a recent episode of Chapo, Felix made a good comment, he said that "the frontier always comes back home", and I feel that it's a very fitting comment for what's happening in France. After exploiting the shit out of poor African and Caribbean countries by regular colonialism and then with the shackles of loans and "protection", France later allowed millions of poor Algerians, Moroccans, Malians, Senegalese and other people to immigrate to France and live in borderline ghettos in order to work minimum wage in France. Immigrant-majority areas are incredibly sad in terms of the lack of maintenance and how little opportunity working class people really have in a racist culture that doesn't explicitly allow any other identity than French. The desperation and frustration in those areas simply manifests itself in different ways, some people turn to drugs and alcohol, some people turn to chasing the dream of becoming an athlete and leaving the place, and some people turn to God for answers. And like expected frustrated and defeated people won't preach about love, compassion and kindness, they preach about destroying the social order that facilitates their exploitation. So it's just natural that so many young poor Muslims turn into monsters, because French society actively created those monsters by accepting the dire economic conditions of immigrants in general
