Deep down, I know that the US is evil and will not do anything to stop COVID. But I fucking hate when people talk so casually about it. I don’t give a fuck how “mild” it is. I don’t fucking want it. You should be pissed off and tired that the government is throwing you to the dogs - but no. It’s just a passive shrug. I wouldn’t care as much if I lived by myself, but I live with people who interact with idiots who don’t take precautions because of ego. Fucking hate this shit.

Thanks for giving voice to this. I literally have these thoughts in my head on the daily. It also drives me crazy that people don't talk about China more. There's a proven model for defeating covid that is well documented and has been demonstrated practically to be safe and effective. No conversation about that whatsoever.

oh god. I had suppressed everything I read this year about cruise ships because there's such a painful level of stupid there that my brain can't handle it.

this gem is just the tip of the stupid iceberg, if you will. https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2022/01/05/every-cruise-ship-covid-cdc/

The fact that they are still running those polluting disease factories is baffling to me.

I got to listen to my boss talk about how all of us getting covid is inevitable and is a good thing actually. The man has a PhD in a STEM field. My friends (all educated professionals) have all had it multiple times and regularly go out to bars and whatnot. It's infuriating.

I know the word gets overused to the point of absurdity, bit it almost feels like gaslighting. Every time I talk to my (:LIB:) parents, I feel like I'm going insane. I'll talk about how Omicron being slightly less deadly doesn't matter if more people get it, and they just sort of look at me blankly. And then 2 months later I'm proved right, and I bring it up, and they just ignore me.

Yeah my dad keeps telling me we should be done with covid because people are tired of it. Like that's nice, I'm also tired of it. Doesn't mean I want more people to be killed by it

only loosely related, but I read an actual, scientifically strong study today that found vitamin D levels are a very good predictor of whether someone will be severely affected by covid. so make sure to get sunlight and maybe take some vitamin D gummies, comrades.

Vitamin D is good. I had lung issues for several years prior to covid showing up, basically a hacking cough lasting hours or days any time I inhaled dust, and then saw something about vitamin d and how it might help with covid when covid started. I started taking it, and a couple weeks later my lungs dramatically improved and started clearing up. Dust still bothers me but it's not anywhere near the problem it used to be. It was like night and day. Turns out getting enough sunlight is hard in northern gloomy climates if you work indoors and only have a chance to see the sun during breaks. It's certainly not a cure for covid like some weirdos promote it as, but i have no doubt it helps if you're deficient. It is also cheap and safe.

Or do neither. I'd rather not get skin cancer/skin damage, or destroy my body with sugar. Vitamin D pills/capsules FTW! I think they're cheaper than gummies too.

Just get like 15 minutes of direct sun exposure per day, it's not going to give you cancer.

Why when I can just pop a vitamin and get no UV damage? Also it's not just cancer, it's also skin aging which includes a LOT of different types of skin damage that accumulate and become permanent, pigmentation spots, darkening, etc.

If you're on keto, that's like 25% of your daily carb allowance used up, all for a tiny gummy.

Also, I have bad teeth/gums and bad dental genetics. Chewing on a piece of sugar every day will literally give me toothaches and who knows what permanent tooth damage. I know, because I went off keto for holiday deserts around Christmas once. I think it was only for like a week. My teeth hurt for literally months after that. Gummies are ESPECIALLY bad for your teeth cause the gooey stuff sticks to your teeth instead of being washed away by saliva, sticking all that sugar in place to cause prolonged dental damage, which can easily become permanent.

Make sure you're also taking vitamin K2 pills, or eating lots of leafy greens. Otherwise that vitamin D3 supplement is wasted.

That applies to Vitamin D from sunlight too, cause your body doesn't get any K2 from sunlight.

Living in NZ is a weird feeling right now. We have gotten rid of most of our national protection measures now. It feels like we are about to disband most of our border protections, the alternative (and much shittier) neolib party is growing in popularity and the cases are creeping upward.

All of my friends have pretty much accepted that they will get it at some point since there isn't much we can do to avoid it. It's like watching the popular will to avoid disaster evaporate in real time.

The unfortunate thing is that it's really not going to be a disaster for most people. Omicron really is milder, just not really "mild" in the common sense meaning of the word. Too many people will die but it will still be "just" a small fraction of the population, and likely it won't even overflow the hospital system (it didn't where I'm from and our healthcare system is mediocre at best) so it's really easy for politicians to sweep it under the rug.

It's socialism or barbarism as it always was, people keep choosing barbarism and it sucks.

Maybe. Our healthcare system is so bare bones that it struggles with the flu season already. It has reached near capacity several times recently even without the COVID outbreak.

It's a very neo-liberal country. Our reputation for being succdems is a little strange

Yup. The true erosion began began when our multi-millionaire, banking CEO former Prime Minister wrote a column about the need to open up for the economy

For the poorest among us, it's cope. For the richest among us, it's genuinely not understanding there is a problem because of the comfortable cushion surrounding them.

      which we shouldn’t

Solving a pandemic requires a population that is governable and a government willing to do it.

The US has a weak government unable to take any action (along with a court system that de facto rules the country and will stop any attempt), and its citizens are ungovernable.

It's not a matter of whether it should be treated as an endemic here. It is endemic now. I don't think it's unreasonable to make decisions moving forward with the fact that it won't be going away in mind.

yeah idk maybe I’m a doomer or w/e but i don’t see how anyone can avoid it. everyone in the hospital has been exposed, it’s airborne so only n95s work/you can get it just walking in a room, and it will be around for years to come.

there was a shot to stop it but no one cares about vax/we reopened

i mean death to america but what can you do if like literally 50% of the ppl in this country don’t care?
