I’ve listened to the show a few times since Super Tuesday. I was surprised recently, a couple months ago, when I was listening and one of them (Felix I think) said outright “we are communists.” I mean, I knew they were some flavor of leftist, obviously, but I can’t remember them ever being so blunt about it in any of the pre-2020 episodes I ever listened to. In fact I specifically remember one of their Iowa live shows where they were pretty coy about it, I think one of the hosts said something like “hey, I know some of our listeners lean Red, but solidarity, vote for Bernie.”
It was nice to hear them say it.
May I suggest giving Hell of Presidents and Hingpoints a listen? It's Matt is at his best, doing historical materialism.
Felix has been very explicit about that lately. Somewhat jokingly, but serious about being communist, whenever some stupid harm reduction point comes up. Like "why the fuck do I care if the CIA is disrespected or NATO falls? I am literally a communist"

Yeah it's uncool to say you like them out loud, but all of their funniest takes always seem to make their way into hex bear vernacular in some way.
I hate every episode of media analysis for some show only gen-x people would watch. Current events they typically are still fine.
I unironicallly miss Amber and Virgil though. It's just not the same to me now.

Yeah they bug me sometimes but as far as the online left goes they still have some of the best takes. The recent one where they talked about Ukraine was good.

Just gave the new episode a listen. Jesus christ the latest article they read about the left's "half-baked answers on Ukraine" is so fucking unhinged. How you can be so thoroughly aware of the history surrounding that region and still find time to finger wag at the DSA of all things is beyond me. Solid takes from the pod

Trashfuture takes on Ukraine were absolute garbage. Don't know what Liam has to say.
After a bunch of people in the tf thread recommended beep beep lettuce as 'less serious', I checked it out thinking they would avoid the issue entirely, but they have an entire ukraine episode, and the takes there are pretty good. Even the ones I disagree with are so much better after the bar I had come to expect with trash future. It's amazing what having "war is awful and I hate what it does to civilians' lives" as a starting point does for quality of takes.
I have listen to it more recently and yeah iv noticed the hosts have tryed to talk less badly about "tankies" i think they got pretty bad blow back as suprize suprize a lot of there audience is tankies, personly I think the pod would be better with out Liam as roz pretty much just geting talked over saying interesting stuff with pointless conjecture from the other two hosts. I'm sorry if this comes off as cynical.
I can't listen to WTYP anymore now that I know they're just a bunch of libs LARPing.
I wish they could be pushed or bullied into better takes but I can't keep my hopes up
It was like a year ago for me, I was an avid listener but on one episode they were just so fucking smug about mocking people to their left I turned it off and never bothered listening again.

I did the exact same thing, I've started to tune in occasionally again, but Liam still consistently has toxicly bad takes that he tries to frame as anarchism and the others just let him roll with it.

Same. I enjoyed the backlog, but then as I went through recent stuff they just get worse and worse politically. To the point that you can expect 30 min of smug radlib takes usually.

Political takes aside, a lot of that podcast is Roz carrying the whole thing while Liam and Alice try to be funny.
I learned about them through hexbear, started listening pretty heavily to their back catalogue, really enjoyed it, then an episode I listened to started with like 10 minutes of Alice doing an anti-Communism while Roz and Liam just ignored it, which I assume means they agreed with it, and then they had that episode shortly after where they brought in that Hungarian fascist who was recently explaining why a full scale nuclear war wasn't such a bad thing and I just fell off completely.
Support Liam’s dad who scolded him for regurgitation of state department propaganda on all episodes where they need to talk about state department propaganda.

Liam's a cantankerous fuck, but nine times out of ten he's fine. And he handles a bunch of the social media bullshit for Roz, which is half the reason he's a host to begin with.
Past that, the worst take I've seen from the lot has been Alice. Its basically just - you can't blame people for wanting to repel a foreign invasion. Putin's breathed as much life into EU fascism as any American State Department official with this invasion. But past that, both the WTYP and TrashFuture gangs basically agree with the Chapos that this is - first and foremost - an unforced humanitarian disaster on a continental scale and it needs to end asap.

Honestly I think I'm just grumpy from work I still listen to the pod cast Liam is fine, the one major plus of this pod cast is that they all seem to have fun and most other leftist pod casts I listen too always just sounds so demoralizlsm and like they don't get to have brief moments of fun. I really like listening to people making jokes as it makes being alone at work more tolerable.
on a recent bonus ep alice landed on the take that "yes ukraine is full of nazis, yes the sheer volume of weapons is going to have horrendous consequences for the ukrainian people, no we shouldnt stop sending weapons"

That the US is the biggest driving force behind the war, hoping for a quick end to the war instead of some protracted shitfest, calling out the torrent of bloodlust and propaganda. Good shit all around.
I think they even said their views in the most tactful way possible. They didn't even say "Ukraine should surrender right now", although that's easily the best outcome to this situation.
Anti-imperialism is so useful to the left because it's the thin red line that radlibs cannot cross. If you can't stand against the empire, when the chips are on the table, you won't side with a potential revolution. If you come out as pro war, it's really easy, we never have to return your calls again.
