I have never once seen a woman rinse a menstrual cup in all my years of being afab and having to use womens public restrooms. Why would you make an effort to do it in a gender neutral bathroom?

Making absolutely everyone uncomfortable because you fantasize about one day owning the first trans person you meet in your life, who you've been radicalized to hate by a children's fantasy author.

It needs to be emptied out more frequently than once/day for most people. In public a lot of people just empty it out in the toilet when it's full, re-insert, and wash their hands. The risk of toxic shock is pretty low compared to tampons. And with a little technique from repetition you can minimize mess. But if I saw someone rinsing one out in the sink I'd just chuckle to myself and move on. Being disgusted by menstrual blood feels childish to me. But leaving messes for our proletarian janitors and cashiers is inexcusable.

That said: PSA, cups are more sustainable than pads tampons both in reducing waste and on your wallet, and they're about as easy to clean as other silicone unmentionables.

Gotta be real, i've met one (1) person who uses a menstrual cup, if TERFs use it ubiquitously i have to imagine the only ppl who get really into them have weird fetishistic thoughts abt their own period blood.

I’m starting to believe the people who clean bathrooms. Maybe men really do clean up after themselves better. These people clearly don’t.

this is anecdotal as fuck and ultimately meaningless, but i grew up in a household outnumbered by and run by women. the home bathroom i shared was always clean, i felt like the gross one for being different with my face pubes and boy smells and was told so.

at the end of high school, i got a job at this medium-upscale restaurant as the dishwasher/everything gross kid. like, when the manager/chefs got shitfaced the night before and left a bunch of dirty dishes with half eaten seafood at a table for the 7am shift, that became my problem. or when a bunch of fish went bad and had to be carted to the dumpster, dumped, and containers rinsed/cleaned. animal and food waste don't bother me that much, because i'd have to eat it to get sick generally since zoonotic diseases tend to be known and somewhat controlled for in food supply chains. like i'd rather clean a stall of 50 lbs of sloppy cattle shit than 5 lbs of human turds.

anyway, i had to clean/mop both bathrooms twice a shift (before and after rushes), and i think it was my 1st shift when i was traumatized by whatever it was some of the affluent women were doing to the bathrooms and leaving behind. it was all so gratuitous. paper towels clogging toilets that were then shit in/on, used tampons tossed on the floor. the mens was like generally water splashed around the sink, piddles on the floor near the urinals, and stale farts.

my mother and sister said i was exaggerating/lying. i talked to a lady friend about it. this like straight shooter creative writing type who worked the worst service sector jobs. i told her about my experience and she said, "haha yeah, some women turn into animals in there." she told me about working in some fancy neighborhood bookstore when some lady came up and told her the women's bathroom needed attention. and like, she goes in there to find someone made a turd on the ground, wrapped it in TP and used it as a sort of crayon to write "FUCK" on the wall, before throwing it at the mirror where it stuck/slid down to the sink. she went to her supervisor and said if they made her clean that up she would quit on the spot, so they hung an "out of order sign" and called some company that sent some undocumented cleaners because you know that's who handles the worst of the worst.

after that i stopped believing in gendering hygiene and cleanliness. some humans are clean and considerate of shared spaces. some are disgusting little goblins and think getting low paid workers to clean up after their bodily fluids is hilarious and brave.

I see and clean up stuff with my partner's menstrual blood all the time. Like, tampons go in the trash. Taking out the trash is a shared responsibility.

How immature does a person have to be to think menstrual blood is some sort of gross, crazy gotcha?

Sometimes there's blood in the trash can. Sometimes it's my blood because I picked at a scab or whatever. Sometimes it's period blood. big fucking deal.

I’d argue there’s a significant difference between dealing with a bit of your partners blood when taking out your home bathroom’s trash, and having to clean up a strangers menstrual blood that they made a mess with in a public restroom.

Have you considered the enlightened position of “if your bodily fluids are involved clean it yourself”? Like if I bled on something I make damn sure I clean it up. If I came on something, doubly so. I’m not a kink lord, so shit only goes in the toilet. I flush as necessary.

How is this hard? Clean up after yourself regardless?

My comment was venting anger at the assholes who place their assholes above the seat rather than being civilized and using liners so they can properly without (understandably) placing their flesh upon upon public porcelain.

I just don't see it as a big deal.

I think when I read "gender neutral communal toilet", my brain automatically went to "bathroom at home" rather than "public bathroom", especially in conjunction with "male friend/relative".

But I guess in TERF world, they think men are trying to invade bathrooms or something, lol.

It's one of the few choices I've made to be more eco friendly that is miles and away better than the "wasteful" products I used to use. I'm never going back. I think some people have issues finding a cup shape that is conducive to their equipment and there are some conditions that make insertion difficult. On the other hand, in my opinion there's nothing worse than removing a dry tampon or unsticking a pad from yourself.

I also recommend the safety razor for everyone who shaves.

Do you have a recommendation for a good razor, by the by? I've been using this ultra basic Maggard one but it doesn't shave anything unless the top is unscrewed to the point of almost falling off :deeper-sadness:

I have a Merkur. I used the safety razor subreddit to decide. You unscrew at the bottom to pull the top off. I've never had a problem with the blade moving. I paid about 40 EUR IIRC.

When I still had periods, menstrual cups were the only thing that made them even slightly bearable. In my experience, a decent cup will handle a super heavy flow better than anything else. Combine a cup with a reusable cloth pads and I could forget I was on my period for like 3 hours at a time. Compared to the constant, never ending leaking of tampons and the inability of just a pad to deal with how much I bled, cups were a life saver.

So yes, in my experience, menstrual cups are awesome and everyone with a period should at least try one to see if they like it.

My current partner prefers them, but my last partner tried them while we were together and found them uncomfortable and kinda messy, and preferred a tampon + liner combo.

I’ve cleaned toilets for a living. Womens bathrooms are dirtier every time. Trans women who still have some semblance of male bathroom habits are probably improving the place.

I apologize if I phrased this poorly, but it’s true.

i wouldn't say i have male bathroom habits as i never pee while standing - it's a massive dysphoria trigger for me, and most likely that holds true for the vast majority of trans women out there. but i also don't do the "peeing while hovering awkwardly over the seat" thing which seems to be one of the main reasons for messy women's bathrooms.

oh, i also don't make plans to smear my body fluids all over the place as a way to express my hatred for a persecuted minority, i guess this is something that deserves special mention now thanks to terfs.

I’m very sorry if my comment caused insecurity, I am kinda lookin back at it and feeling like an ass.

I have NEVER cleaned a fucked up toilet assigned to any gender variation and thought “oh it’s the trans”. I blame chuds (usually small business owner contractors). I blame Karen’s (usually old assigned woman at birth middle class crackers) and so on.

Really weird question I guess, but is there anything about bathrooms that the dude who sometimes cleans them can do to make them more trans friendly? As a guy who likes the liner things I make sure they’re always well off. But idk, chuds have politicized the most basic human necessity to such a degree I kinda feel like I probably should be proactive on this somehow?

Sorry if I’m being g weird. Drunk isn’t sn excuse but I’m using it lol
