gates' agricultural play is the most cynical shoring up of his exposure to intellectual property rights. the gates' foundations work in Africa flies in the face of every recommendation of the UNFAO for sustainable development and climate resilience, but none of the bazingas care one iota of the destruction that IP laws have had and continue to have on community food systems.

He's an honest to god evil villain from some corny spy movie. He has a major hand in the destruction of the US public education system, too.

Gates backed "Waiting for Superman" which was one of the most cost-effective neoliberal propaganda pieces I can think of. It was cited for well over a decade as a sort of policy bible by so-called "reformers" that wanted to further loot public schools and make students do even more standardized testing year after year, where failure was actually the unspoken goal because that meant more "reforms" and more looting. :doomer:

"This school is doing poorly on the punishing regime of standardized tests that take up so much time it makes actual education impossible. Better yank all their funding, sending the entire district in to a spiral of self destruction!"

And most normal people have no idea that the fix was in from the start, they just think "America's schools are failing" for all kinds of silly brainwormed reasons.

I own less than 1/4000 of the farmland in the US.

The mean per person farmland ownership rate in the US is 1/330000000 of it

I think communists should take note of how much has changed.

This is not the first time Bill has done reddit AMAs, previously they have been extremely positive for him. This one is different, this one is VERY different.

Yeah that's the thing. You can do your best to atomize people, suppress unions and all the tricks capitalism uses to stop people engaging with politics but when you get something like a pandemic followed by a recession people notice that their standard of living has plummeted and they start looking at the greedy bastards raking it in.

Top comment asking about farmland he's buying up, which results in an "oh fuck" answer full of excuses.

Second comment is about cost of living and wanting corporations to pay up. Bill timidly says he would want some more tax.

Third comment is Climate. Fucked or turbo-fucked.

Fourth comment is "can there be ethical billionaires" lmao.

These are the top things people want to bring up with Bill today. Effectively -- Why do you own so much? Why is the working class getting fucked? We are all going to die to the climate (not even a question it's just a statement, on top of leaning towards blaming the rich). And the last is accusatory rather than a real question.

All I see here is class war. This is not how any of his previous AMAs went. He would get lukewarm questions about the future of technology, solutions to climate, jokes and philanthropy. There is a very serious shift toward class consciousness visible in the difference between these questions as the most burning questions people upvote compared to previous AMAs. This is what people care about the most.

All of these questions feel like accusations. Not necessarily at Bill himself but at his class by people who recognise they and him are of a different class.

This was my first impression too. And now hes off to go tattle on the working class to reincarnated Epstein, Elon, Bezos, and the billionaires club. "Guys I think they are catching on."

Playing apples to apples last night with my gen X gf's parents her step-dad answered "Cuba" to the "ingenious" prompt. This morning my gf and I spent like an hour explaining the DoTP to her mom and why everything she hears about China in the US media is wrong.

I used to think he was part owner of Reddit because of all the pro-gates bs. Every year he would participate in their secret Santa and supposedly send some random redditor a mountain of Christmas presents they would pose next to for karma

Like, this shit all feels so canned. The questions feel canned. The answers feel canned. This might as well be an interview in Time Magazine.

      What even is this shit?

Better and safer climate change? That reads like an AI wrote it.

I own less than 1/4000 of the farmland in the US. I have invested in these farms to make them more productive and create more jobs. There isn't some grand scheme involved - in fact all these decisions are made by a professional investment team.

In terms of the very rich I think they should pay a lot more in taxes and they should give away their wealth over time. It has been very fulfilling for me and is my full time job.

He retreats over several rhetorical trenches in one post. :porky-scared:

THEN WHY IS YOUR NET WEALTH GOING UP EVERY YEAR, BILL? GIVING ALL YOUR MONEY TO A CHARITY WITH YOUR NAME ON IT?

This is probably actually true. There's just some paperclip maximizing scheme that's solely about making money. Standard exploitation applies. When climate change 1984s the global food supply, the remaining arable land (disproportionately in the US) will go up in value a lot. Every degree of climate change getting worse increases the value of that land.

There doesn't need to be a NWO conspiracy to explain this.

Don't feel bad, it's Reddit. If social change is going to come from anywhere it's not going to be from redditors. At least not the ones who are salivating over the chance to taste boot.

If you find that answer not convincing enough it's also important to remember as people become more precarious they begin to actually think about the world around them much more. When you taste the pavement you want to know who pushed your face into it.

Truly the most amazing thing about bill gates is how successful his PR campaign has been. He was so widely reviled in the 90s, it's almost difficult to believe how effective it's been.

the honest answer: "I'm actually a 'personal brand management consultant' that Mr Gates is paying a salary to. In my actual free time I mostly watch Netflix and half-heartedly argue with my wife about whether our kid actually has an emotional disorder."

the likely answer: "Because it's important to me that I understand the concerns and the lives of intelligent Redditors like you :)"
